Bodycam footage shows an Illinois woman laughing and playing dumb after she killed two people in a deadly DUI crash on April 10, 2022. Stephanie Melgoza blew three times over the legal limit shortly after failing every other sobriety test performed by East Peoria officers. "This doesn't happen. I go to Bradley," the clearly intoxicated woman said referencing the private university she was set to graduate from in the coming weeks. “You’re pathetic,” an officer said to Melgoza in the hospital when she continued to joke around after learning the two victims died. Melgoza pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI death and two counts of aggravated reckless driving before getting sentenced to 14 years in prison on Thursday.

But, to her parents and educators, I'd have to say, what a fine job you've done there... /s
I can understand the reaction. It was probably more of “This can’t be happening to me.”
She sure ruined her life. How many of us drove in that condition when we were young and stupid?
She’s probably in shock. I had that sort of reaction when I crashed my car into a barrier that I did not know the city set up. The officer investigating the accident thought I might be high, which I wasnt.
Anyhow she got 14 years. Not nearly enough.
More and more I am coming around to the Ancient Egyptian drunk driving laws. A drunken charioteer ran down a priestess of Hathor, killing her. They crucified him over the door of the bar where he got drunk.
The text says she blew three times over the legal limit. I watched seven minutes of the video and I wouldn’t have guessed she had a single drink. She is coherent (but shook up), not reeling, staggering or stumbling, and polite to the officers. If I were 3X the legal limit, I would be a goner.
I didn't.
I would say a good 97% of people did not.
I mean what kind of moral degenerate would you have to be to drive while blitzed out of your mind? Well.. a Kennedy obviously would but they look up to see pond scum.
accidents happen and sometimes they are due to being drunk or drugged, or being tired, or inattention or using your cell phone....
I don't find her to be the worse of the worse....
she was respectful and truthfull re..the weed...
The problem with “blitzed out of your mind” is you don’t know you are getting there (or are there), especially when you are young and inexperienced. I’ve had to fight keys away from people and they INSISTED they were fine, but they were combative and falling-down drunk.
MADD has done a great job the past 50 years raising awareness. 50 or more years ago, I don’t think anybody talked to you about not driving drunk, even in Driver’s Ed class.
It’s weird because the young lady in the video seems to be perfectly sober.
“I would say a good 97% of people did not.”
You might want to check that stat.

“Drunk, dumb and stupid is no way to through life _ _ _ _ _
“
Fill in the blanks.
14 years is nothing. She only got this little because 1, woman, and 2, murdering people with a car gets you less time than with a gun.
This has to change. Vehicular manslaughter needs to be bumped up to at least 2nd degree murder, if not 1st degree if driving drunk.
I disagree. Most people don’t get that drunk, much less drive that drunk. The narrow demo that does is young people who havent controlled themselves yet, and chronic alcoholics. Very small demographics of the entire population.
There’s a part of me that fears the memories of my youthful stupidity.
+1
It’s obvious she’s in a state of shock. The tomorrow for her is going to be sheer horror.
I know what you mean. Many of us are thankful we made it adulthood.
Not talking specifically about this case, but.
Driving along sober and someone steps out in front of you. Not your fault.
Have 2 drinks first. Vehicular Homicide.
MADD is the HOA of driving. Also a bunch of hypocrites.
Cars should be coming in 25’ requiring sobriety check to drive them because drunks are so prevalent
If you didn’t drink, or at least to excess, it didn’t happen to you. The same with smoking and lung cancer.
