Gov. Ron DeSantis held trade talks with South Korean officials in Seoul on Wednesday on the second leg of his four-nation trip.

Who cares? He has no clue about the subject matter and he won’t be the nominee.
Ya, he’s not a candidate. He thinks we are all too stupid to see what he is doing. He is breaking the laws of Florida and depriving it’s citizens of the government they are paying for. But don’t worry, he in the process of changing the laws to benefit no one but himself.
Governors of states go on trade missions to other countries frequently. People are paying attention to this only because he might be a presidential candidate. It normally is not even news when a governor of a state goes somewhere.
I agree , if he is doing this just to try to show he has some foreign policy credentials, such photo ops are a joke.

He is not breaking any of the laws of Florida. Charlie Crist ran for the Senate while governor of Florida and didn’t have to resign. But regardless of that, even at the most strict reading of the law, it does not apply until he “qualifies” as a candidate for another office that would run concurrent with his current office. The earliest that would apply is when/if he files paperwork with the FEC to form an exploratory committee. A more liberal reading could be that he doesn’t actually qualify as a candidate until he receives the nomination of the party. In any case, most of the things Desantis is doing are part of his job as governor and are common activities for most governors whether or not they have presidential aspirations.

Actually, he wants to talk about trade between Japan, South Korea, etc. and the state of Florida. Nothing new or exceptional about a governor doing that. They all try to get new plants and businesses in their states.

Do they always do it while their legislatures are in session, or while a portion of their state is undergoing an emergency (i.e. flooding and gas shortages in South Florida)? Besides which, such trade missions usually last one or two days. How long has DeSantis been on this multi-nation tour, and how quickly did it follow his book tour?
Correct, I misspoke when I said Crist. The point I was making is still valid - there is a precedent in Florida for current officeholders running for Federal office.
The State of Florida is S. Korea's seventh largest trade partner and no laws are being broken by DeSantis visit.

They often go on these types of trips while the legislature is in session, since they are not part of the legislature. The job of the governor is to sign or veto the legislation once passed, and if any lobbying is necessary, that can be usually be done via phone, video chat, etc. And since Desanti has a GOP supermajority in the legislature, not much lobbying should be necessary.
As far as the flooding and shortages, any competent governor should be able to monitor the response from anywhere. The governor is not going to be driving gas trucks or utility trucks. This is just a red herring, trying to find something to complain about to tear Desantis down.
Another thing to consider is that these types of trips are usually planned weeks or months in advance. Unless the situation in Ft. Lauderdale required his personal appearance on-site, as long as the wheels of the government response are turning, there is no reason to cancel the trip.
Crist was also the incumbent Governor when he lost (thankfully) to Marco Rubio.
