I am dismayed that Donald Trump seems to be adopting the tactics of the Biden-dominated DNC and rejecting the opportunity for voters to hear directly from candidates for their parties’ nomination in a presidential debate. In a post on Truth Social, he writes:
I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them. When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the “questions,” why subject yourself to being libeled and abused? Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!
Every honest observer of politics realizes that Biden must shun debates because he is afflicted with dementia, and cannot even announce his candidacy for re-election in a live event. Many progressives and Democrats are appalled by this.
The DNC refusing to hold a single primary debate is undemocratic and robs the voters of choice.
No one who feels confident in their record and/or ideas would hesitate to stand on them.
The DNC should hold debates.
This is supposed to be a democratic process. — Nina Turner (@ninaturner) April 24, 2023
DNC has already announced that it will not allow any debates in 2024 primary. Biden is not to be challenged. Everyone on the Democratic side must shut up and fall in line. Not having debates is undemocratic and ridiculous. No progressive should agree to this kind of power grab. — Cenk Uygur (@cenkuygur) April 24, 2023

I suppose people like Chris Christie bragging about how he was planning to sandbag Trump had an impact. If the only purpose of the debate from all candidates and the “independent journalists” moderating is to relentlessly attack Trump, which it will be, why subject yourself to that?
Is Trump rejecting all debates?
Or his he rejecting debates organized by leftist, deep-state controlled, dinosaur media?
If the latter, then I support him 100%
Isn't that pretty much all of them?
Sounds more like Trump wanted to be asked before agreeing to the debate since he probably doesn’t want the GOPe to put some hack as moderator.
RE: If the only purpose of the debate from all candidates and the “independent journalists” moderating is to relentlessly attack Trump, which it will be, why subject yourself to that?
Then Trump will NOT participate in ANY debates even with the Democrat candidate because what you described IS EXACTLY WHAT IS TO BE EXPECTED.
Unless.... Trump’s team gets to choose an ACCEPTABLE MODERATOR .
> TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the “questions,” why subject yourself to being libeled and abused? <
Trump is 100% correct about that. The fix is in before the first question is asked. Same as it ever was.
But there is a way around this. Hit the ball back in their court. Trump should demand the right to choose his fair share of questioners. This should actually be standard procedure in every political debate.
If the debate committee denies that, then it’s on them.
I think I’d use the Eastwood approach, with a twist. Bring out a empty suit and hang it up....asking empty suit how you could screw-up so many things. Alternate this a few times....sometimes bringing it out of a closet...sometimes make it a suit with holes...sometimes with backgrounds of Harris 88-word sentences.
Trump and GOP should have debates, of course.
But not on GloboHomo NeoCon Faux News.
Good, now I don’t even have to pretend to enjoy watching. Just wait til Biden is reelected in a landslide.
Don’t forget the fade-in and fade-out images of Obama as the answers to the questions.
Nonsense. 2020, PA and AZ 2022 make it abundantly clear that ideas and your ability to do the job don’t matter. The only thing that matters is how many ballots you can harvest. Trump needs to find a way to control about 70m ballots, banked by election day and then win the GoTV on election day. That’s the game. Everything else (maybe even rallies) is meaningless. Not a great way to be a self governing Republic but....the country is past that for now.
POTUS debate is different. This is primary debate, and Trump is invoking the priveledge of an incumbent (which he considers himself) to not participate in primary debates. I don't think it's ever done where a sitting pres would participate in primary debates, there is no upside. Trump is basically operating in the same mode, given his status as the only former POTUS in the field and his large polling advantage (which could dwindle, its a gamble).
Like I said, POTUS level debate is different. There he has an opportunity to put Biden through some stress and I'd relish it if I were him. However it will be for naught, Biden will never debate anyone.
Is Trump rejecting all debates?
Or his he rejecting debates organized by leftist, deep-state controlled, dinosaur media?
If the latter, then I support him 100%
The leftist controlled debate is the issue. Not only does he have to fight the left, he has to fight the republicans.
Why is Trump all of a sudden worried about debates or who moderates them?
He should do what he’s always done. What they all do:
Ignore leading questions and answer them in the manner and style YOU want to. And of course attack your opponents position.
Trump would just attack desantis in the debates anyway..
we already know how Trump and his diehard supporters feel about Desantis.
I disagree, it's time to make debates great again. These biased debates are plain wrong, somebody has to confront that.
“Just wait til Biden is reelected in a landslide.”
that’s pretty much a given since the GOPe sat on their hands and didn’t do much to fix the problem that lead up to the cheat the last time nore do they seem interested in joining in the cheat to push their guy over the top.
To make debates great again takes a strong moderator. One who will enforce the rules, one who will cut the mic off if/when necessary.
Biden is going to lose bigly. His dementia and failed policies will catch up to him in the next 1.5 years.
