Trump touts efforts to restrict abortion rights in speech to Iowa evangelicals

Former President Trump stressed his efforts to restrict abortion access during remarks to a group of evangelicals over the weekend in the early nominating state of Iowa.

“Last year, after decades of work by organizations like yours, those justices delivered a landmark victory for protecting innocent life,” Trump, bragging about the three Supreme Court seats he filled with conservative justices, said Saturday about the fall of Roe v. Wade. “Nobody thought it was going to happen. They thought it would be another 50 years.”

Trump’s victory lap on helping curb abortion access in front of the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition comes as the issue, which was one of the most prominent in the 2020 midterms, still plays a role ahead of the 2024 primaries.

“Restrict abortion rights”

Nope. No bias there.

“Pandering to the audience?”

You may call it pandering, but Trump can cite facts.

As opposed to DeSantis, who cannot tout his anti-abortion stance, becasue he signed a bill that permits abortion up to the first six weeks, as if that time span can be determined with any accuracy.

And, talk about pandering. That signature on the legislation means he is planning on running for president. That signature is a dog-whistle to the pro-abortion community.

Trying, yes. But many of what they call “evangelicals” that I grew up with have been turned off by Trump, his language and behavior. This was last election. These are hard-core conservative people. They wrote in others or left the POTUS blank. I couldn’t change their minds about it. Their allegiance to God was higher than the Republican nominee in their minds.
Trump isn’t doing himself any favors this time around either.

Work at a state level...what they always said it should be. Now they want more federal laws. Guess what, you may end up losing that battle at a federal level and it’ll go the otherway and every state will be forced to allow it. The states right argument is the smartest approach. Instead of losing federal elections and then eventually losing the progress that has been made.

Abortions should neither be open on demand for 9 months, nor, should be 100% restricted. Majority of American voters are somewhere in between.

Democrats skillfully exploited senator Graham’s bill to ban abortions after 15 weeks. Young women came out to vote in much higher numbers to vote in mid-terms and the red wave fizzled in spite of Biden inflation, and Biden adding to national debt by getting involved in another foreign war.

Losing elections will not help reducing abortions of fetuses who can survive outside the womb.

This is not a winning issue. It is red meat for people who have already decided.

Only one issue can slice off women voters from the Dems, and that is the appeal to Independent women on the subject of biological males competing in sports with biological women. That can be phrased powerfully.

A process pushed by the Democrats to abuse your ability to compete only against other biological women. And the same for your daughters — who may seek athletic scholarships and cannot get them because of this filth.

This is new. THIS WILL WIN WOMEN VOTES. Spend time on it and only on it. Abortion does nothing but please or enrage minds already made up.

Excellent analysis and post. Pubs will lose again if they don’t find a way to get around this Dem strategy while remaining pro-life.
