WASHINGTON (TND) — The U.S. airline industry is facing workforce challenges, mainly, a "severe and ongoing" shortage of pilots.
The issue will eventually become even more complicated because there will soon be a “tsunami of pilot retirements," according to Faye Malarkey Black, who is the president and CEO of the Regional Airline Association.
She addressed Congress in a prepared statement on Wednesday, noting that at least 50% of pilots will hit the mandatory retirement age of 65 within the next 15 years

fake vaxx deadline..
No worries, there are a bunch of trained Saudi, Iraqi, and Afghan pilots looking for jobs...
I was told there would be no more flights because all the pilots refused the Covid vaccine, and quite.
Don’t tell I fell for another “Clickbait” Drama.😱
Better open the borders so we can get more illegals to fly the planes that Americans don’t want to.
I forgot about the vaxx.
Most of the old guys are veterans that learned how to fly, courtesy of Uncle Sam and the Air Force, Navy or Marines.
Years ago, I went to a small airport in Fayetteville, Ga to talk to someone about flying lessons.
Say 100s of Asians and later learned that they were all from China. Falcon Aviation had won a contract with the Chinese government to train pilots for the country’s airline.
I ended up talking to someone from the company. He was talking about this 6 years ago. Said that a lot of the military pilots do NOT want to fly anymore. Retire and get a desk job as some manager or director, making 6 figures, sitting at a desk all day and being home every night. Or, flying all over the place, never being home.
When covid hit, like everyone else, Delta had lots of folks sitting at home. Quite a few were just working to work. Could have retired whenever they wanted. Then Delta offered an ‘early out’. Delta didn’t expect the numbers of senior folks that took the option.
Don’t worry. Some 3rd worlder or Affirmative Action trans will soon be flying you to your daughters wedding. And if you don’t fly, you’re a wascist, homophobic and transphobic, misogynistic and xenophobic.
On this site! 😂
Shirley you jest.
So why don’t we raise the mandatory retirement age to say 68 with increased medical requirements? Maybe we can start a program where these very experienced pilots spend their last two years before retirement working for commuter airlines to pass along their knowledge to young commercial pilots just starting out.
It’s not just pilots, but lots of skilled professions. The average age of licensed electricians is near 60. And plumbers are not far behind.
Be careful. You'll need to do the "Crocodile Dundee Crochotomy Test" before committing...
Between the retirements and the 1500 hour requirement there will be a serious shortage. Some airlines are resorting to opening and funding their own pilot academies.

NOT GUILTY!!
Oops, sorry. Kneejerk reaction!
Between aged-out and medical retirements, I suspect the shortage of qualified pilots will have a major future impact causing flight delays and cancellations.
Also, I believe several years ago, rules where changed where a pilot had to have more than previously-required military pilot experience to be “grandfathered” in for approval as commercial flight pilot. It went from something like six years military pilot experience to ten years. Although I can’t remember the details as to the changes and, of course, can’t find the article now since it has gone down Google’s memory hole.
Here is an article from 2019 predicting the upcoming pilot shortage.

Its ok, since many businesses have shuttered and the clot shot will have killed many more millions by then. No worries. All is on schedule.
But they want to keep everyone scared and stressed. Not playing along. You guys can, I will sit this all out.
It costs over $80K to get the ATP today and it takes forever to get hired by airlines today because of the Government’s 1,500 hours rule (thanks John Boehner). I stopped after getting my instrument rating because it was just too expensive to go all the way.
Have a good friend whose her pilot husband is forced retired to because he’s 65.
That’s nuts.
Screen the one’s who wants to keep working.
My Mom was a teacher who didn’t retire until she was 75 and than volunteered til she was 80.
She loved what she did on steroids!
Two brothers from the old neighborhood attended Embry Riddle in the early 70s.
After a few years, one married well and bailed out the other contained on for some years and returned to the family business.
They both said that CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) bus drivers make more and sleep in their own beds every night.
Yes, working for smaller airlines.
