Call it the under-reported story of the year.
But if you're in Taiwan, you'd be mighty nervous, given that the Chinese navy is surrounding your entire island -- just as a military exercise, of course.

It would be a real shame if their carrier ran into a mk50.
I keep wondering: What if the war has already started, but no one has noticed?
just coincidentally happens
Chicoms don’t want to commit suicide but they want to put up their fur so others give them what they want.
It’s not like Taiwan won’t nuke Shanghai.
“What if the war has already started, but no one has noticed?”
As the article points out, the news is being contained. If the government thought we were on the verge of war, and the government was competent, this would be on the news every night. But we have a governmental leader who makes ice-cream jokes at funerals and stumbles going up stairs when every camera in whatever country is on him. (I think I’ll order some iodine pills.)
I find what is happening Fassxinating.
unfortunately not unexpected
A straits of T. battel would be over economically in about 40 minutes.
USN/British attack submarines would use the expensive ammo on the high tech flagships and escape at depth and at 35kts flank faster than the surface screeners can turn. The under reporting of how good the free islands surface to surface missles are picking out chinese combatants is under reported. China is just giving away electronic warfare infomation every time they go to sea in force. With the top 5% of the chines’ navy taken out the rest runs for the protection of home port as the T air force runs a 36 hour war on every boat in the strait while the chinese air force is gamed around with flights of US Navy recon drones and EF-18s. The battlefield information system of the good guys in that part of the world is epic good.
Lots of poor hardware has gone against the USN over the past 50 years, beyond ROI mistakes, Floating Mines, or Watch Mistakes, name a significant hit?
2 million soldiers think otherwise.
Apparently our exercises were planned long before the chinese decided to hold theirs.
I dunno. I cant believe what comes out of either socialist regime.
A MK 50 is NOT going to sink a carrier.
The Chinese were emboldened by the Biden Administration”s failure to react quickly and defensively when those wobbly Spy Balloons drifted over our country. Some were shot down but only after they had absorbed and transmitted data about our military bases.
Just a hunch, but I believe China will go for it in a little less than 2 years.
Certainly not a robust US carrier.
Taiwan has always kind of existed on the edge.
It seems like it’s only a matter of time. I wonder what the trigger will be…
Maybe there’s already a countdown clock ticking.
What if it hits the magazine or the diesel tank?
(Yes, the Chicom carriers are diesels.)
If the Taiwanese are so naive as to deny the likelihood that the ccp has so totally infiltrated the island over 30+ years that they can take it in 24 hours, they deserve what’s coming and it’s not worth a DROP of US blood or a penny’s worth of effort.
Hell, it’s what they’re doing here, too.
I think China would have a really tough time taking Taiwan. Taiwan has a lot of ways to resist and I think Japan would join the fight even before the US.
After that China would face massive sanctions and boycotts. This would hurt them much more than Russia. Everyone needs oil and will cheat sanctions to get it. Nobody needs McDonald’s toys that much.
In addition, China gets 85% of their oil from the Persian Gulf. That could be blockaded by the US, Japan, or India and China couldn’t do anything about it unless they wanted to go nuclear.
Should China start massing an invasion fleet, expect Taiwan to announce they are a nuclear power.
Taiwan could go nuclear over a long weekend.
Why do you imagine Taiwan is going to bleed out for globohomo?
The Chinese are a lot smarter than Ukrainians.
