Road Trip: Joint Base Langley Eustis, Virginia

Joint Base Langley–Eustis is a United States military facility located adjacent to Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. The base is an amalgamation of the United States Air Force's Langley Air Force Base and the United States Army's Fort Eustis which were merged on 1 October 2010.

Unlike other joint bases that share common perimeters, the two components are geographically separated by 17 miles. In January 2010, the Air Force reactivated the 633rd Air Base Wing to assume host unit and installation support functions at each location. The installation assumed its full operational capability (FOC) in October 2010.

Fort Eustis, a historic Army installation and the second half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis, is an area to train service members in transportation, aviation maintenance, logistics and deployment doctrine with its diverse landscape and easy access to the James River.

The installation is the training ground for the majority of the transportation MOSs (with the exception of the 88M truck driver specialty located at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.) and all of the helicopter maintenance technicians. It is the home of the Transportation Regiment.

VAlangleyeustis4

Langley Air Force Base is the first half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis and is home to JBLE's Air Force units. With the 633rd Air Base Wing as its host unit, this portion of the base is home to three Fighter Squadrons and one Fighter Training Squadron, as well as numerous intelligence units and other non-flying units.

Langley also hosts the Headquarters of Air Combat Command (ACC).

VAlangleyeustis3

Langley is also home to the F-22 Raptor Demo Team. This team, who travels all over the world performing different maneuvers used in air combat, is used to help recruit for the United States Air Force. Performing in airshows and other special events all around the world, the squadron is the only demonstration team in the world to use the F-22 Raptor.

Seize the Opportunity

Bible in a Year:

Do the work of an evangelist.

2 Timothy 4:5

While waiting to enter the university, twenty-year-old Shin Yi decided to commit three months of her break to serving in a youth mission organization. It seemed like an odd time to do this, given the COVID-19 restrictions that prevented face-to-face meetings. But Shin Yi soon found a way. “We couldn’t meet up with students on the streets, in shopping malls, or fast-food centers like we usually did,” she shared. “But we continued to keep in touch with the Christian students via Zoom to pray for one another and with the non-believers via phone calls.”

Shin Yi did what the apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to do: “Do the work of an evangelist” (2 Timothy 4:5). Paul warned that people would find teachers who would tell them what they wanted to hear and not what they needed to hear (vv. 3–4). Yet Timothy was called to take courage and “be prepared in season and out of season.” He was to “correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction” (v. 2).

Though not all of us are called to be evangelists or preachers, each one of us can play a part in sharing our faith with those around us. Unbelievers are perishing without Christ. Believers need strengthening and encouragement. With God’s help, let’s proclaim His good news whenever and wherever we can. .

Reflect & Pray

How have you experienced God’s power made perfect in your weakness? How could you help someone who’s experiencing weakness?

God, I want my life to display Your power, even in weakness. Help me to depend more on You each day, and to feel Your strength when I struggle.

Howdy there, Night Owls!
My son was stationed at Langley AFB
And was in the RCC...Rescue Command Center.
He loved the work.
He had quite the stories to tell of various rescues.
It was there that he decided he wanted to be an officer.
They had better living arrangements. LOL!
Thanks, Lauren, for a trip down memory lane!

Howdy, PRO.

Hope you had a good weekend. I see it’s a bit soggy up there ....... a good excuse for not mowing. LOL

No such excuse here so I put the mower through the paces this afternoon.

Howdy, Kathy.

You sure have had a crazy weather day up there. Almost blizzard conditions this morning and by noon the sun was out. Now it’s getting dreary again. :-(

Hi radu, yeah we've been getting a lot of rain, all the reservoirs are completely full so any more rain is going to lead to some flooding, which we get every 4-5 years, hope it's not too bad and it won't affect me where I live.

Good weekend otherwise, son sent me some more pics from Nashville, he and his sister had a great time there.

Should start drying out here tomorrow so I can start mowing perhaps by the end of the week, grass is getting too long.
