Scientists have documented an abnormal and dramatic surge in sea levels along the U.S. gulf and southeastern coastlines since about 2010, raising new questions about whether New Orleans, Miami, Houston and other coastal communities might be even more at risk from rising seas than once predicted.
The acceleration, while relatively short-lived so far, could have far-reaching consequences in an area of the United States that has seen massive development as the wetlands, mangroves and shorelines that once protected it are shrinking. An already vulnerable landscape that is home to millions of people is growing more vulnerable, more quickly, potentially putting a large swath of America at greater risk from severe storms and flooding.

Promise kept: Sea levels fall under Obama

You guys need to consider what has happened to FR because of the lax administrative oversight.
FR is totally unusable in a Junior High School setting and is much less usable in for High School teachers due to the vulgar language and the name calling.
All you people who negatively responded to my original objection to a reference to a “johnson” sound like you never graduated from junior high! Do you talk to you children like that??!
My grown daughter reads FR, but she has to “hold her nose”.
You have succeeded in making FR web site that I cannot recommend to most people, thus, it is less useful.
Huh ... and I thought it was just me ...
Maybe Hank Johnson is right. So many immigrants are making our continent tip.

Mean sea level around the globe is not uniform, nor was it ever. This has been known at least since the Panama Canal was built. It should not be surprising. Earth is not a sphere; it's not even an "oblate spheroid". It's lumpy, and its gravitational field is consequently nonuniform.
Only rising on one side of the ocean. Got it.
A great pile of maggot infested, flaming BS!
I’ve lived in the same coastal Florida region for 60 years. Avid boater, diver, water front property owner. Sea water levels haven’t risen the slightest.
Bull. I have been down to the gulf coast. No such sea rise.
That will capsize the planet??
How many digits to the right of the decimal point constitutes “drastically”?
Well the science says that climate change has caused the earth to spin faster. Since the earth spins in an east-west manner, the water is building along eastern coast lines causing the Easter level to rise.
Whew, I’m ready for my Nobel!
What... it was funny!
So, it added humor.
Bawdy, I suppose, but lightweight.
Probably any boy in 3rd Grade could catch the drift given a minute of thought, and they’d laugh themselves silly over it, too, ‘cuz boys are like that at 8 years old.
The condition of your aorta militates against my posting any old Coppertone ads.
Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud
Sea levels began to rise 18k years ago at the end of the last glacial period. They have risen about 135 meters since then which is an average of 7.5 millimeters per year. That is an average of 750 mm per century (29.5 inches) which is far more than the average over the last century. As the chart shows most of that rise was over about 8k years ago.
From 1880 to 2000 sea level rose about 20 cm or just under 8 inches. Far less than the nearly 30 inches per century average over the last 18,000 years.
The most recent data from NASA shows a decline in sea level.
Inconvenient: NASA shows global sea level…pausing, instead of rising
I have houses on the Chesapeake bay and gulf in Florida and the sea level hasn’t gone up an 100th of an inch in 30 years..
Lie , Lie , Lie is what the Democrat Nazi’s do best, to get our money and brainwash more stupid young people...
Its hard to believe now stupid the young people are today and that will the the downfall of our country.... And it won’t be long either....
Depends on where you are. I lived in Annapolis for a while, and you could see the stumps of a British fort on Spa Creek emerge at low tide: that area has been subsiding slowly for a long time. I’ve read that the Virginia part of the Chesapeake has sunk due to lowering the water table by pumping.
WATER SEEKS IT’S OWN LEVEL-—
Learned that in about 4th grade.
Marking to read through comments later.
Someone tell al gore and obama
I bet youre in the top ten on everyones invite list to the party!
sinking land or ask them when was the last time they shelled out the money for beach recovery projects that many other beach strand communities shell out for.
