Former President Donald Trump on Monday sought to discourage Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) from officially getting into the 2024 presidential race, claiming it would ultimately divide the GOP and hurt DeSantis’ career.
“Ron DeSantis is a young man who is not doing well against me in the polls, to put it mildly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I believe that if he decides to run for President, which will only hurt and somewhat divide the Republican Party, he will lose the cherished and massive MAGA vote, and never be able to successfully run for office again.”
“If he remains Governor, which is what Florida voters assumed, it would be a whole different story….JUST SAYIN’ – But who knows?” Trump added.

I support Donald Trump’s right to express his opinion on this matter.
The media just hates it when trump tells the truth, as it is.
for better or worse Trump is right on this.
I would have liked if Trump had decided not to run and had simply supported DeSantis which I feel could have beat Biden easily.
But that was not to be, Trump is running and no one, including DeSantis will be able to beat him.
This is a reasoned argument and much more productive that the name calling.
He's our Biden.
Trump may be a shoo-in for the Republican nomination, but I don’t believe that he can win the general election. It would have been better if Trump had not chosen to run again, but his ego would not permit it. And his inability to win the general isn’t because he is a hardline conservative. He is a populist, not a conservative. So we have the worst of both worlds: A conservative doesn’t get the nomination, and a Democrat wins the Presidency.
It is going to be a rough next few years.
Presuming we can defeat further election fraud, we need to squeeze four more years out of President Trump, so that we can then follow with eight years with the likes of DeSantis. After that, another eight of Kari Lake. (At least that’s how I want it to go down in fantasy Little Billy World).
Trump is right.
DeSantis has no pathway to POTUS in 2024.
He will only hurt the GOP, and his own future chances at POTUS, if he chooses to run.
If DeSantis is smart he’ll get behind Trump and forego this election. The republican party is in transition and he’s likely to be pulverized in the middle if he goes ahead now. Watch and learn Ron. It will sereve you well down the road.
I think you are right, also.
After DeSantis loses, next time he runs for POTUS he will have to face Cruz also. Post-Trump is a different world. But for now? Trump owns the party (the voters that is). DeSantis hurts himself by challenging what is obvious.
Nice, ita called an off ramp, even suggesting future support (or at least not trying to utterly destroy him). I like this approach. Of course Desanctimonius is certain the world needs him now because Rove and Ryan told him so. Trump knows what he’s willing to do and it won’t be pretty.
I don’t think the party wants him....the Dems do.
“It is going to be a rough next few years.”
I think that come election time, if voters think the Democrats have made their personal lives worse then they’ll vote Republican.
Except even Jimmy Carter had the good sense to go back to Plains Georgia after getting his ass handed to him by Reagan
Trump lost to a drooling half-wit who stayed locked away in the basement during the entirety of the campaign.
25%
I generally agree but due to demographic shifts no Republican of any stripe is likely to ever win again.
I support Trump’s opinion on this, because it happens to be the same as my opinion. Trump is much older than DeSantis, and at best, we can only have one more term of his sagacious leadership. DeSantis’ turn will come, if he only shows patience. I also think DeSantis needs a bit more seasoning.
It’s only Trumps opinion. And his opinions are usually right.
I live near Tallahassee and amazed how many think Desantis would go up to DC and just turn the place around. Desantis has a super majority in Florida. That will not exist while in DC. I dont know why people can’t grasp that concept.
