The knee jerk, clownish reactions to headlines, without knowing what the facts are, really need to stop.

Excuse me? As a FReeper in good standing I will clownishly knee-jerk all I want and misrepresent the headline all I want, it's what we do, thank you.

I’m just happy he’s even bringing it up. Hopefully he can get some strings pulled in the right directions at least.

Not Guilty viz.”On August 25, 2020, when he was 17, Rittenhouse shot three men during the civil unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin that followed the shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, by a police officer. Rittenhouse, a white American,[7] was armed with an AR-15 style rifle and had joined a group of armed citizens in Kenosha who had said they were there to protect local businesses.[8][9] After a man chased him into a parking lot and grabbed the barrel of his rifle, Rittenhouse fatally shot him.[10][11][12] Rittenhouse fled and was pursued by a crowd. He then fatally shot a second man after the man struck Rittenhouse with a skateboard and tried to grab his rifle.[8][13][14] Rittenhouse wounded a third when he was approached and HAD A HANDGUN POINTED AT HIM.” wiki, my caps

Abbott should be working on jailing the DA. Accessory after the fact for armed assault would be my suggestion. Put him in jail with no bail in the general population. It will be the last time he tries this crap.

The sharply curtailed pardon power of the Governor of Texas has nothing to do with the limitations of government power. Texas Governor “Pa” Ferguson sold several pardons and commutations, and his wife, Governor “Ma” Ferguson sold them by the hundreds. The Texas Legislature proposed, and the voters approved a constitutional amendment to keep future governors from doing the same.

I think the solution to a Governor corruptly abusing executive power ought not to be forever depriving the Texas Governor of a traditional executive power, but that was before my time.

The reason this tragic abuse of government power has gone unchecked for nearly three years - is because Texans don’t want the government to have too much power.

I said that Texas was founded by people trying to get away from too much government, which is an undeniable historical fact. I did not say that Texas is now being run by people who don't want the government to have too much power.

Throughout human history, those in power tend to want more power and to abuse the power that they have.

Glad to hear it.

I understand some have questioned Abbot’s Conservative bona fides in the past. They may be justified in doing so. I don’t know. The last year or so he seems to be pretty good.

What tragedy?

Abbott appoints the board that rubber stamps his pardons.

Texas has always had a Constitutionally weak governor and a part time legislature. Any substantive change in the law requires a Constitutional Amendment approved by both the legislature and by popular vote, which is how the additional limits on the Governor’s pardon power were enacted in 1936 and why our Constitution is now 300 pages long.

not only should this man be pardoned, but EVERY SINGLE ON OF THE PROTESTERS should be charged with murder!

When you are committing a crime (they were in the street unlawfully) and someone dies during that crime you are liable for their death even if you weren’t directly the one who killed them!
