Walmart announced that it will add charging stations for electric vehicles to thousands of U.S. stores by 2030.
The company plans to add 1,300 EV charging stations to various Walmart and Sam’s Club locations, said Vishal Kapadia, Walmart’s senior vice president of energy transformation.
“With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, we are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible whether people live in rural, suburban or urban areas,” Kapadia said in a statement.
Sales of electric vehicles surged in 2022, with purchases increasing by two-thirds amid an overall auto industry slump. Yet the infrastructure challenges of producing enough charging stations to support the increase in electric vehicles on the road has proved to be an issue. Tesla last month announced that it would make some of its EV chargers available for the usage of all electric vehicles.

For a nominal fee...........?
Shopping at Walmart with a $80,000 toy...
And the charging cords get stolen and end up at the scrap metal yard. Brilliant!
I hate how most Walmarts get EV chargers, though. It's through the government punishing Volkswagen over dieselgate. Volkswagen owns Electrify America. If you see the green lit chargers in a Walmart parking lot near you, chances are months ago you also read in the news about Volkswagen settlement money being used to pay for setting up a charger in your area.
I hate the government forcing stuff. EV's and chargers should be a free market thing.
People that shop at Wal-Mart can’t afford vehicles that start at $60,000.
The seen the insurance rates
The Feds are going to have to insure auto loans or the whole system fails.
I wonder where the electricity will come from?
We need a Federal Law making it ILLEGAL to use anything but “Green Renewable” energy to charge an electric vehicle. With Strict Civil Asset Forfeiture for violators
PSTUPID!
My wife and I every now and then shop at Walmart, and we own a $62K EV. Usually when we shop at Walmart, though, it's part of a last stop on a way to a rental cabin. Even before we got an EV we'd look for a store shortly before reaching destination to buy perishable groceries or whatever we may have forgotten to pack. Now that we have an EV, the EV charges for 10-15 minutes while we buy those supplies. Walmart often gets our business because some of them have an EV charger (if we chose to drive the EV on that trip, sometimes it's best to take the ICE pickup).
So Walmart has a “senior vice president of energy transformation”. Who knew?
Perhaps this worthy official could explain where those charging stations will obtain all the additional electric power needed.
Hint #1: Don’t say coal-fired power plants. They’re being shut down.
Hint #2: Don’t say magic unicorns. Unicorns are cute, but they deliver very little power.
And outlaw vehicles older than five years to force them to purchase new ones.
Btw, no one is required to show their receipt to some low paid stooge as they exit the door.
They are forgetting something. Where’s the electricity come from?
Sales of electric vehicles surged in 2022,“
Well that’s BS. I have seen The Hill use that lie a few times now. It goes from 3 to 6 percent so it is a 50% increase therefore “a surge”.
With EVs being totaled following minor accidents, due to concern about battery damage, electric vehicles will be nearly impossible to insure in the near future.
brilliant, cone charge your ev and spend hours charging in our store
Come on, man.
i like going to my gas station and be out of there in 5 minutes. Anything at these EV stations over 5 minutes is a waste of everyone’s time.
