And therein lies the beginning of what could become quite a story.
It has been said that one cannot use an old map to explore a new world. Yet, if one is Communist China, one might be able to edit it to create a new world. Beijing’s recently revised mapping standards seem to suggest it is attempting just that.
The standards, released by the Ministry of Natural Resources on the approval of the State Council of the people’s republic, require that all Chinese maps “accurately reflect the scope of China’s territory.” In addition to islands in the South China Sea and Free China – which is to be called “Taiwan Province” – this also appears to include eight Russian cities that span the Sino-Russian border.

So much for the Sino-Russian recent talks about becoming allies once again.
Biden’s great Ukrainian adventure pushed Russia into China’s orbit. I don’t expect the ties will ever be permanent, neither trusts the other, but right now the ‘enemy of my enemy ...’
Why haven’t these foreign policy experts considered that three equal super-powers might be more stable than two?
"There was one?"
One article in the NYSun and it has all begun?
I’ll wait.
Russia isn’t a superpower anymore
the Ukraine war has proved that
So Europe (with Russia as part of Europe), China, and the U.S. works for me.
What did they rename Washington DC? Isn’t that still under Chinese control?
Neither are we.
Well it was until Putin saw the Chinese finger trap we were stuck in and decided that he had to get himself some of that!
I think you have it reversed. Biden is a Chinese asset.
China benefits more than anyone else from the Ukraine-Russia war.
Russia is weakened. The West is weakened. China gets cheap Russian oil.
Win-Win-Win for China, who is also gaining more control over Russia.
“So it has begun. The Chinese claim to former territories taken under duress by Russia.”
So it seems that the Neocons picked the WRONG enemy, and it’s really China that they should have gone after, instead of goading Russia into attacking Ukraine, and then becoming enemies with Russia.
After all, China is renaming cities WITHOUT Russia or any other country goading them into doing it - and, in fact, are doing this after signing deal after deal with Russia to link their economies.
Once again, the Neocons GOT IT WRONG, and they THREW AWAY any chance of having the West in a position to pose a credible threat to China (they needed Russia for that, whether they like it or not, the West is not credible to take on BOTH Russia and China).
Nothing new for the Neocons, as they have a PERFECT .000 batting average when it comes to choosing countries to hate.
Is Oceania supposed to ally with Eurasia or Eastasia over this?
What do they call Washington, DC?
Russia attacking Ukraine was inconvenient as heck for everyone in the West and developing world, and the only one who is happy is China. China is the only ones with a motive, so it follows that Xi probably took advantage of Putin’s weaknesses to make all of this happen when they huddled up together before announcing their relationship that China calls “Not allies, but better than allies” (Yeah, I’ll bet!).
The question is, whether Russia wants to be China’s vassal, or whether it wants to be part of Europe, which will result in a conservative realignment of Europe.
A target.
No, that is not true.
Xi is carefully finessing Putin and Russia by not really doing anything. Xi knows the world sees Russia in at best an unfavorable light. Politically, it is not beneficial for China to strongly back Putin’s effort to invade Ukraine and then others.
China, especially the failing business and manufacturing CCP controlled China, must have customers to exist. Xi’s international politics have sales and money at the root
