On Thursday, Florida lawmakers filed a bill that would allow Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to first resign from the governor’s office.
Current state law mandates that if DeSantis were to run for another office, he would have to resign from his current post in order to do so, as reported by the Epoch Times.
The bill, Senate Bill 7050, was filed at 6:08 p.m. just roughly thirty minutes after news broke that 45th President Donald Trump will be indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
The filing comes after Gov. DeSantis took a stand for President Trump against the unjustified indictment, taking to Twitter to decry the “anti-American’ nature of the political persecution.
“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis wrote. “It is un-American.”

It is un-American.

WATCH: TRUMP TEAM RELEASES POWERFUL VIRAL AD IN RESPONSE TO INDICTMENT
“The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct,” he explained. “Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”
“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis added.
While DeSantis has yet to announce an official run for the presidency, many took his recent book tour as a shadow campaign as the Florida governor crisscrossed the country to tell conservative audiences about his model of leadership.
While the Florida legislature is getting ready to lay the groundwork for DeSantis to run for the Republican nomination, Trump’s indictment likely overshadows its importance.
“We will lose with Trump in 2024. We have a chance with DeSantis.”
You have no chance with anyone the communist regime doesn’t want to install. 2 elections (presidency, and mid terms) with open, unprosecuted, in your face fraud and people still think their vote makes a difference. 🤔🙄 If they install DeSantis, it’s an indication he is not who you think he is.
“Without 75 million of Trumps good friends, DeSantis has zero zip chance of getting elected president.”
Agreed. DeSantis will have a hard time convincing many of those 75 million to vote for him over Trump in the 2024 primary, especially now since he’s hopped in bed with the Bush Family, Paul Ryan and the open borders/pro China and pro Ukraine lobby.
If DeSantis beats Trump in the 2024 primary, especially “wins” only due to GOP Shenanigans, he will have to deal with the prospect of millions of those 75 million 2020 Trump voters staying home in November, 2024. I doubt there are enough suburban white housewives to make up the difference.
You must have missed it. Florida been saying that this very ambiguous and ridiculous law would be resolved through legislation.
Entertaining to watch the onlyTrumpers line up with the Dems on this
What are you talking about? The Dems are in favor of repealing the resign to run law? You have no clue.
100%
Regardless of what the law requires, if DeSantis wins the 2024 presidential election, he would have to resign from the governorship anyway. The real question is what happens if he loses.
If it’s so important that the law is changed, that means that DeSantis and his supporters in the legislature aren’t confident that he will be able to win.
Proposed by a Democrat. Not taken up yet. But what does that have to do with anything?
Please look at Pompeo's Biography.
He can’t even run according to that ignorant, ambiguous law.
You aren’t even close to being right on that point.
The Dems are opposed to it.
What’s the big deal? Only five states have resign to run laws. This guarantees DeSantis’s governorship if he runs for president but does not win. Sounds good to me!
I do like my Mental state just fine. But the gopE Uniparty thing is a No Go.
So Speaking of things Mental, since you are so drawn to that word for some reason, Trump's three SC nominees v. Buch's Chief Pirate Roberts - Obamacare is not a TAX and The Chief Pirate also does not believe in the Commerce Clause.
Ronny boy's political thing with Disney is not working out so well after all.
Do tell just how much of an "amazing conservative leader" is the doRonRon?
It was originally passed for a reason - to ensure that state office holders in Florida focus on the jobs they ran for rather than spending their time campaigning for some other office. Sounds like a pretty good idea, except it interferes with DeSantis’s presidential ambitions, so it’s being repealed.
You who would let the hellbent left destroy a man and let the left’s crime family go on their merry way.. you do not deserve to live in this country!!
the left is on a terror role because there is no spunk, no spine to fight their underhanded lying illegal ways. ya get used to that kind of living and it seems natural to the lost mind.
Trump is NOT going to quit
Trump is the only one who cares for this nation in politics
DeSantis stands NO chance of winning this.
NO ONE else has a chance of winning this.
we out here... we maga people...do not act like the terrorists nor the democrats.. just know there are limits and the left has long gone passed that line.
you do not know the pulse out here among the people who do not riot .. we work and raise our families.... if that sounds like we are push overs... think again... our values are on different things than trans and stupidity.. and we value our freedoms and our rights.. we will not be run over by the democrat illegal groups who think we are cornered.. we are not and neither is Trump.. President Trump!
It’s been repealed twice before. If it’s such a good idea why do only five states have it?
Is it really or is it more DeSantis vs. Trump shit designed to create a divide between their supporters from the MSM that gave us eight years of "The Maverick"; who incidentally was never referred to as "The Maverick" the day he lost the 2008 election.....
It’s been repealed twice before. If it’s such a good idea why do only five states have it?
Most states have a state income tax. Does that make it a good idea?
