I recall Nancy Pelosi giving a tour of her freezer with all its expensive ice-cream. I think people in high office get so separated from the reality of the rest of us that they become tone deaf regarding what they say and how it might be interpreted.

In general, the less we know about people the more popular they’re likely to be. Take Obama. Every time he gave a speech his numbers went down. But whenever he was absent from public view for a long time, they went up. People tend to project their own thoughts onto leaders and those thoughts are always better than the real thing.

Jeni's actually has pretty good ice cream. Their parlor is on 14th Street NW near U Street, around the corner from Ben's Chile Bowl and about two miles from the White House. However, when I went there, I didn't see either Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden.

Jeni’s ice cream is no big deal. It isn’t even in the same league as Costco’s Kirkland vanilla. The local University started life 140 years ago as an ag school and still has a significant ag department. They produce a wonderful ice cream that is far better than anything Jeni ever produced.
