Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) will not run for president in 2024 and is waiting to see how the Republican primary field shakes out before throwing his support behind a candidate.
Kemp revealed his plans to stay out of the race in a recent Wall Street Journal interview after his name had been floated in some polls and the outlet had published an opinion piece by consultant Scott Wescott declaring Kemp a “logical choice” for the job.
Kemp, a popular governor who has gained national prominence in recent years, also told the WSJ he is “keeping an open mind” about whom he might endorse:
"I have a great relationship with Pence and a really good relationship with DeSantis. Chris Christie came and campaigned for us multiple times, along with a lot of other governors. I know Tim Scott real well. Nikki Haley came and campaigned for us. I’ve known her over the years, and I’ve gotten to meet [Mike] Pompeo a couple of times. So I’m kind of like everybody else, I’m just seeing how things are playing out and keeping an open mind."
Asked about former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner of the three declared candidates in the GOP primary, Kemp said, “Yeah, I haven’t heard from Trump.”

Wow. It is a Murderer's Row of RINOs. I don't see how this helps DeSantis.
IMO, this is just more of the same.
I don’t care WHO she played to be, I’m saying she is/was NOT a real Georgian. What did it hurt her to get up in a Dem-controlled government and play conservative?
Further, I highly RESENT you insinuating I’m an assistant Democrat for knowing what she is. I was BORN here in Georgia in 1950 and here at FR since 1998. Inducted here in 1968 and served 8 years (7 overseas) and then came home and stayed while Watusi Kelly waltzed in as a co-owner of a womens’ b-ball team and her NYSE husband and bought some politics. Screw off, fella....
What you say is true, BUT! Kemp had the bully pulpit and could have alerted Georgia Voters as to what was going on. That whole mess was done on the down-low
“Kelly Loeffler is ANOTHER reason why I’d never vote for him.”
Senate Barbie. What a tool.
Kemp is a traitor and a criminal. Eventually he will get his just desserts.
The way things work here on Free Republic, Republicans or conservatives are routinely criticized if they have done anything which does not comport with the conservative principles.
It doesn’t matter if that person has a solid record on the issues. Even one action or statement against conservative principles , is enough to cause such person to be condemned
What those vote totals say is that GA is a RINO/Liberal State now.
As with most things, it depends on what that “principle” which is not comported with might be.
Everyone has core issues of their own which they don’t tolerate violations of, and those don’t always line up with the core issues of others.
For some, it is abortion. Others, fiscal policy. Some, National Security. And so on.
What counts as a solid record for some isn’t the same as it might be for others.
It just happens.
Somebody I know called her a “Blonde-haired Watusi” which I thought was funny.
“Kemp is campaigning with DeSantis on Thursday in Georgia.”
Kemp needs to have a third grader explain to him what an “open mind” is.
So? One election had a lot more voter fraud. What was Kemp’s total votes versus Trump’s?
DeSantis is not doing himself any favors surrounding himself with every damn GOPe globalist around!! The MAGA base won’t GO BACK to settling for these GOP scum who sell out our country AND the American people!! ALL DeSantis money coming from these GOPe globalist, open borders, Neocons WE WON’T GO BACK THERE!!!
Shading the election rules toward Biden is a pretty big issue. Then, stopping election law changes that would reduce the chance of future fraud is even worse. The sad part, he was the better choice in the 2018 GOP runoff primary.
That’s a good one.
*Does this traitorous RINO really think people will vote for him?* Yes, in Ga.
*That’s an anomaly because most Georgians were mainly concerned about Fat Stacy getting the Governorship.* Might not beat the next one.
*Free Republic Assistant Democrats show up and are still bashing good Republicans like Loeffler.* Come on. No one knew her beforehand.
*Kemp had the bully pulpit and could have alerted Georgia Voters as to what was going on.* Bingo! That’s our biggest problem-leaders and leadership.
*It doesn’t matter if that person has a solid record on the issues.* Right-so did Dan Quayle.
No one mentioned his term ending in ‘26 where Ossoff is up again. Would he take him on? Finger in the wind says no.
The saving grace is he has three hefty daughters. I wouldn’t be looking forward to spending time with any future SIL’s.
Hey GG, this is the same thing Hershel Walker did joined himself at the hip with Graham, the MAGA base WILL NOT get out and vote for this anymore THEY ARE DONE!! Hershel made a HUGE mistake joining himself to Graham, the MAGA base could SEE Graham leading Hershel around by the nose in the senate AND they stayed home!! YES it is AWFUL that we lost the senate BUT the die hard MAGA folks are completely DONE with these bastards selling out our country!!! DeSantis is in bed with all the wrong people he will NEVER win the general the base is DONE with the GOPe BS!!!
Kemp change election rules to help Biden? Yet this is the same Brian Kemp who was roundly criticized by the Liberals over the Georgia election law, the one which outraged baseball so much they pulled the All-Star Game out of Georgia.
