DeSantis looks to revamp strategy amid signs of political strain

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is recalibrating his strategy and messaging amid signs that his presidential ambitions may be faltering before his campaign even gets off the ground.

DeSantis began the year with clear momentum in the nascent GOP presidential primary, topping former President Trump in head-to-head polling and drawing unparalleled interest from Republican voters and operatives eager to see a fresh face at the helm of the party.

But there are signs that his momentum may be stalling: he’s faced weeks of relentless attacks from Trump and his allies, fellow Republicans have criticized him for dubbing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “a territorial dispute” and some recent polls have shown his support in a hypothetical GOP primary slipping.

“I think for all the fanfare about DeSantis, there’s still a lot of stuff he needs to work on,” said one Republican strategist, who plans to back the Florida governor in the 2024 primary if he runs. “That’s normal when you’re exploring this kind of thing. But I think he needs to rethink things a little bit.”

To some degree, that already appears to be happening.

Republican strategists are the problem. Ask Sarah Palin how helpful they are. The last thing DeSantis needs is MORE republican consultants/strategists telling him to move to the "center" meaning to the left but he's been doing it. He'll never be president if he keeps listening to these clowns.

I have liked DeSantis as a governor. He's done a lot of good things.

This past week, he made several unforced errors. Errors that show me he isn't ready to take heat nationally. On the scale of Ted Cruz when he imploded back in 2016. Ron isn't ready to be the one to take on the national democrat/industrial smear complex.

I'm open to him figuring that out, but he's not ready yet.

Revamping a strategy when he’s not even an official candidate is a sign that the guy is a loser.

Trump’s not letting him get traction.

He’s gonna have to toughen up if he’s going to get moving in this political climate. I honestly wish him well. DeSantis is a strong player and at this point it’s a 52 card pickup. We’ve got no idea who’s going to be the last card to pick up on top of that game.

I think the democrats are fixing the election anyway so it doesn’t really matter. What, you think that the democrats got this Dementia ridden old pedophile hiding in his basement into the whitehouse by actually running a campaign? Of course not they fixed the election and nobody’s doing anything about why. The borders are wide open, the election’s still being run by soros DA’s, nobody’s cleaning the voter rolls, nobody will challenge the democrats vote production... NOBODY. You think that the democrats are not setting this up again for 2024?

But it will be fun to watch.

He has a better chance. Put him at 45 on the same stage as an 82 year old Biden.

Stop the educate yourself crap I have and DeSantis has to prove he is not on the GOPe team. Quoting John McCain was not convincing.

DeSantis is just another damned lawyer. He was a military JAG, the type of scum that micromanages rules of engagement overseas and gets our servicemen killed in fruitless wars that never end.

None if that matters if Trump can’t carry the swing states. Does not matter how much he wins the Red States by.

BINGO!

Ya knew the minute this guy wouldn’t support Trump something was obviously up. He choose poorly. He should have got behind Trump right out of the gate.

Now we know why he didn’t.

Four years and he got there with help of Trump. That is another thing.

I never said he isn’t a good Gov, but he needs to finish his second term or he will end up like Palin.
