Hundreds of workers at five Walmart facilities that fulfill e-commerce orders are being asked to find jobs within 90 days at other company locations, a spokesperson confirmed to Reuters.
About 200 workers at Pedricktown, NJ, and hundreds of others at Fort Worth, Texas; Chino, Calif.; Davenport, Fla.; and Bethlehem, Pa., were let go due to a reduction or elimination in evening and weekend shifts, the spokesperson said.
The layoffs at Walmart, a retail bellwether because of its size, could be a harbinger of further turmoil in the US economy, which many economists predict could enter recession this year.
“We recently adjusted staffing levels to better prepare for the future needs of customers,” Walmart said in a statement, adding that it would work closely with affected associates to find jobs at other locations.

They’ll have to move to Texas or Florida
There would be positions in the stores themselves that are not filled. There is unlikely enough jobs to replace every job that is being cut, however.
They can layoff all those home delivery shoppers as far as I’m concerned.......I almost get run over every time I’m in there.
If they can’t afford to move, it’s a de facto layoff.
Let’s hear it for the minimum wage!
I heard that at a large distribution center in Seymour, IN, they were going robotic.
Automation will certainly start to eat into the number of jobs in this area.
Florida is full ✋️......turn around. 🔄
At least you’re not a border state. Texas is overrun with illegals despite what Abbott claims.
Way back when an old timer predicted jobs would be taken over by a live wire.
“At least you’re not a border state”
I beg to differ......it is common now for me to walk into a grocery store or Walmart and hear literally dozens of people speaking foreign languages.
This story is about my town......my question is how are they affording to live here and where are they getting money to shop?
“Border officials secretly sent 70 planes of migrants to Florida: DeSantis office”
Just leave the Walmart Markets alone. I do my bulk shopping at my local one and the delivery is fast and great.
Things have changed a little since ‘83
Walmart has 1.6 million employees in the US. 200 is nothing.
Umm...🤔
It’s not the two hundred jobs that’s the Bell whether it’s where they are. These are online order warehouses which suggests a softening of consumer spending online. Fallout from Joe’s inflation I’m guessing.
maybe woke cities should have thought about all those closing stores, lol...
