We live about fifty miles from Yellowstone. Nothing’s happening that doesn’t always happen.

Just how and why the amount of heat that emanates from the earth’s core is not scientifically understood. However the thickness of Arctic and Antarctic ice more than likely correlates with underwater volcano and “smoker” activity than ambient air temperatures. Also the amount of heat generated from the earth’s core is the ultimate mediator of climate change. During an ice age the earth is fairly quiet.

True. It is formed on earth mainly as a result of decay of radioactive elements. Alpha particles (a type of radioactivity) are just He-4 nuclei. I am not a geologist, but AFAIK there would be no reason that release of helium would be correlated with imminent volcanic activity.

Well enjoy it while it lasts- its not every day that you get to hear wild animals that sound like Mickey mouse.

If I knew they were right, I’d take a road trip to Yellowstone. An eruption sounds like a quick death.

I live in SE Idaho. As you approach Pocatello, ID on I-15 northbound, there is a large area of basalt columns. Continuing north toward Idaho Falls, there are lava beds from MP 100 to MP 108. Lava simply emerged from below. Locally, the area is referred to as "Hell's Half Acre". My preferred parking at Old Faithful is 186 miles from my driveway. Suffice to say, a serious volcanic eruption will be leaving material in my neighborhood. Historically, quakes up to 7.7 magnitude have occurred here.

“”From the inner workings of the human body to the outer reaches of space””

Sure...Fine.... But what is really important is..... Do you control the vertical, do you control the horizontal?

My personal take on it is most of the heat comes from the circulating electric currents within the earth, which in turn are coupled to and vary with the strength of the sun’s magnetic field. So there is a mechanism for the “solar heating” of the earth via the sun that does not involve photon impact.

Last time there was a major eruption in Yellowstone it laid incandescent hot glass ash south of Amarillo TX.
