Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced Monday that the company will be laying off another 9,000 employees, marking the second round of significant layoffs this year.
These cuts are in addition to the 18,000 layoffs Jassy announced in January, which had started in November. Jassy said in a memo to employees on Monday that most of the cuts will affect Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s People Experience and Technology Solutions, advertising, and Twitch, which is a video live-streaming service.
“For several years leading up to this one, most of our businesses added a significant amount of headcount,” Jassy wrote in a memo to employees. “This made sense given what was happening in our businesses and the economy as a whole.”
“However, given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount,” he added.

They’ve closed all but a few of their warehouses.

I notice a lot of amazon delivery trucks parked at their distribution depots. parcel delivery style vehicles not linehaul over the road trucks.

9,000 layoffs here and there is like a dripping faucet. Probably even a healthy thing for a company of that size. Like how a healthy human sloughs dead cells off its body on a daily basis (think about that next time you dust your house).
President Trump put a bunch of New Yawkers to work today only by announcing that he was going to be arrested on Tuesday.
They probably have turn over of 50,000 employees per month.... that would not be unusual a good layoff would be about 100,000 employees.
They have about 1m in the US.
Nine thousand is still a rounding error. Of course that’s not to say that 9 thousand is the end of it.
Yet I see adds all the time for jobs at amazon.
Why if they’re laying off so many people?
These are not layoffs. They are Getterridofs. Meaning, they are getting rid of the people they don’t want and have replaced them already. Probably people at the higher end of the pay scale.
I experienced a hack on my prime account amounting to an unauthorized purchase amounting to $500+. To access the account one needs the password and a call back to my phone for a confirmation code.
I stopped the payment. Amazon came after me aggressively. Amazon never bothered to go after the real thief. In retrospect, in light of the bypassed double security, I am convinced the theft was an inside job.
Wonder who they voted for?
I want to see and feel what I’m buying.
And I love to walk around while doing it, for exercise, ya know.
Doing without is next step. Just love that ‘third world’, chitty feeling.
...because the economy is, like, booming.
The entire world, including China, are at this interesting stage where central banking is NOT succeeding at slaying the inflation dragon. While that is happening, made worse by bank failures, all the world economies are basically stagnant. Again the Chinese economy is hardly moving at all. Many European economies and Canada have stalled right out. The USA is a little stronger but the future does not look bright.
Only 27,000 people lost their jobs. This gives them the time to go to school and learn to code so they can get jobs at Meta/Facebook...
Whatever it is we’re going through, Resident Go Brandon and fiends assure us that it is not a recession.
