More than 1,000 people may face new charges relating to the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the Justice Department warned Washington, D.C. courts late last year.
That number comes in addition to the nearly 1,000 people the DOJ had already arrested for Jan. 6 offenses as of February. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves informed Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the potential prosecutions in an October 2022 letter, according to Bloomberg News. Specifically, the letter stated that the court should expect an additional 700-1,200 prosecutions.
"We expect the pace of bringing new cases will increase, in an orderly fashion, over the course of the next few months," Graves wrote in the letter, according to Bloomberg News. Graves added that it was difficult to predict the exact number of cases due to the "nature and the complexity of the investigation."
Some Republicans on Capitol Hill are becoming increasingly vocal in their opposition to prosecutions of Jan. 6 participants. GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer of Kentucky are planning to visit Jan. 6 defendants being held in the Washington, D.C., jail in the near future.

Political prosecutions by democrats against their enemies.
This is warfare called lawfare, folks.
The brownshirts are emboldened and coming for
us.
More setup for the reaction to Trump and family being persecuted in courts soon.
“The dead Deplorables had it coming to them. They were trying to overthrow the government.”
Very ugly comments at the bottom of the article.
>> This is warfare called lawfare, folks.
Yup. SCREW these devils! There weren’t 1,000 people IN the capitol on 1/6.
>> Very ugly comments at the bottom of the article.
I read most (though not all) of the comments. They didn’t seem ugly.
Not sure which comments you’re talking about...??? Examples?
I won’t even ask why the republican party as a party does not oppose this in the most vocal and strident way. It’s because they want the same thing.
Make that “political persecutions”.
Some folks we know were at the J6 rally. They peeked in the door at the Capitol, even spoke to the Capitol Police at the door, asked if it was all right to go in. He didn’t say “no”, but said it was a good ways down the hall to where other people were located. They turned away, didn’t go in. They’ve been worried about something happening to them for even being there - I suspect they thought they were ‘out of the woods’, but maybe not.
Really? How about the thousands of criminals we never prosecute for murder, rape, and drug cartels.
This is clearly a witch hunt in the name of damaging anyone
at all who backed Trump. His friends, his advisors, his
appointments...
The Justice Department leadership has gone rogue, and not
even the FISA Court justices will stand up to it.
Those who lied to get a warrant against Trump have not
been called back into court to this day. These warrants
were used to spy on Trump while he was on duty in the
White House.
It doesn’t get much more serious than that, but the
justices have been mute.
At least some of the people in the Capital Building
were being very respectful of cordoned areas. One
guy who got almost four years prayed for the the
people serving the Americans Citizens that day
publicly.
It is way past time for some U. S. Marshalls to
march in and start making arrests.
Until they do, the justice system in the United States
is broken and worse than a joke. It’s a very
dangerous period in our nation right now.
We are witnessing a Third Reich type situation right
before our very eyes.
The Democrats evil allies are untouchable, and folks
on the Right who were respectful in the Capital Building
on 01/06 are being persecuted, and given sentences that
do not address their actual infractions or lack thereof.
Our nation is in very serious trouble, and the powers
that be WILL NOT address it.
What the hell?
Is there not one single elected or appointed official
in Washington, D. C. who gives a damn about our
Republic?
It’s very sad and frightening the current state of our country is in.
Fox News allows comments?
It sure is.
Those Jan 6er’s need to be physically liberated
They are doubling down. Same as with the vax.
This is intimidation. They want us to know that peaceful protest and wrongthink will be met with overwhelming force.
