On Thursday, Florida House and Senate committees endorsed legislation that would introduce a series of contentious amendments affecting public employee unions. The Senate bill (SB 256), greenlit by the Fiscal Policy Committee, is now prepared for consideration by the entire Senate.
The House Constitutional Rights, Rule of Law & Government Operations Subcommittee approved the House version of the bill (HB 1445) with a 10-5 vote. Republican House sponsor Dean Black echoed talking points that the bill allows employees to know up front that their money is going to support union political causes.
In December 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his two-year plan at an education event for Florida school board members. The plan included a call for paycheck protection for Florida teachers, which aimed to prevent automatic deductions of union dues from their salaries.
DeSantis specifically expressed his desire to remove government involvement in collecting union dues. Currently, Florida workers, including teachers, have the option to refrain from joining their union, but if they don’t, union dues are automatically deducted from their paychecks.
“We don’t want to play a role in deducting anybody’s money, so you write [your check] every month for the dues and you do it that way,” DeSantis said at the time. “It’s more of a guarantee that the money is actually going to go to teachers and not be frittered away by interest groups who get involved in the school system.”

That’s what I’m talking about. Union Reform. Those thugs need a boot in their ass. If you want something done and done right, go with non-union. Union thugs are the idiots you see driving around with an “I’m the NRA and I Vote” bumper sticker on one side of the bumper and a Biden/Harris bumper sticker on the other side.

I have to deal with the union at the local military base (civilian employees). The union is always looking for a reason to sue anyone who comes in and everyone I have dealt with have had bad attitudes. Very nasty, all of the members I have had dealings with. A real chip on their shoulders. I am a civilian contractor, and I just blew off a project (and probably future projects) because of one of their people. Tired of the BS.
The engineer I work for is upset, because he loves my work. He uses other contractors because he has to, but said they don’t have my expertise.
That DeSantis guy, I mean, he’s just far too American for me. I want someone who says mean things but delivers nothing. That seems to be the American way. I just want to be amped up while hoping something happens sometime. This DeSantis guy is hard to keep up with, and he makes me tired trying to read about his work all the time.
The only real reform for govt unions is their elimination. Just ban govt unions and makecit a felony to to promote or organize one.
He’s a deep state stooge, controlled by Wall Street! Just ask any Ever Trumper. All of these conservative things he’s doing are just some sort of deep fake trojan horse ploy! He’ll just do this stuff until he gets in the White House and then you’ll see! He’ll be putting Fauci out front and center! And hawking vaxes. And appointing Bob Barr! How horrible.
Yeah, all these great things are just a ploy, man! I know a dood who knows a dood whose sister told him, man!
Hopefully they really are in the crosshairs, as they should be.
Repeal the 1935 Labor Relation Acts, make unions subject to the Sherman Anti-Trust Act and liable for the crime if price-fixing. Job done.
