Richard Quest, senior international business correspondent at CNN, warned on Monday of the economic consequences of the judicial reform being promoted by the Israeli government.
Speaking to Channel 12 News, Quest said, “Let’s be quite clear about this: If these measures go forward as planned, there will be an effect. It will be felt. You cannot tinker around, undermine the foundations of a country’s unwritten constitution, based on practice and history, and not expect to have a result. It’s as simple as that.”
He said that the effect will not be immediate but rather take place over time. “Over the next few weeks, the next few months, few years – that investment didn’t come here, that company or that factory or that start-up moved, and bit by bit by bit people will just evaporate away.”
"I was talking with one of the largest venture capital funds in this country, and they say: 'We are already looking at whether we should invest elsewhere,' 'We are already considering this issue, we are not doing anything yet.' Lots of people are not doing anything yet because they think that this thing isn’t going to pass, but there are people who are prepared to move and to do things," said Quest.
"Many people say it's a matter of democracy. That is the core - but there is also the core of judicial certainty. You need to know that if you sign a contract, if you make an investment, if you commit yourself, that the law tomorrow will not have perversely changed from the law today....

I guess Johnny Quest and Haji were not an item, then.
But like father, like son, Richard's wandered off and gotten into trouble again.
"'tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."
What exactly are the judicial reforms they’re talking about?
1. Presently, the Bar Association picks five high-court judges, and the legislature and cabinet pick four. Reform is now the Bar Association picks four, and the legislature and cabinet pick five.
2. Presently, if the court makes a decision, you have to abide by it, no appeal and no recourse. Reform is that the legislature can override a bad ruling by simple majority.
There’s plenty of wiggle room there, but imho the reforms don’t go far enough.
I have no clue what is going on, but if the media is against it, then it must be good news.
They usually reserve such apocalyptic predictions for stuff that means “bad for liberals”
You got it;-)
The State Department and USA Intelligence Community did exactly the same thing to Bolsanaro in Brazil, who lost a fraudulent election to a neo-Marxist former felon.
Bolsonaro was a Conservative and solidly pro-Trump and pro-USA.
The State Department and USA Intelligence Community have also been trying to evict Viktor Orban, the Conservative PM of Hungary, for the last eight years.
Good luck finding operatives who speak Hungarian. It’s one of the hardest languages in the world, with Basque and Aborigine in close competition.
The neo-Marxist Supreme Court in Israel has dictatorial powers over the Knesset and the Executive branch of Israel's government.
The appointment of Supreme Court Judges in Israel is a corrupt travesty. They are responsible to no one!
Luckily I have my phrasebook....
Neo-Marxist George Soros speaks Hungarian and has very strong opinions about Viktor Orban.
I hope that answers all your questions.
Pinging RaceBannon to this thread.
What the hell does that mean?
Note post 3. What dems would do to have the Supreme Court majority appointed by the Bar Association
If you make changes then other changes happen. I can translate Govt-Speak.
Maybe the shooter had a bad case of toenail fungus?
Can an “unwritten” Constitution actually exist?

The British have been using one for a few centuries. Basically, the high court in Israel makes it up and it means whatever they want it to mean. So it’s “undermining democracy” to allow the democratic executive and legislative branches too much say in it. It’s about seven pounds of sh!t in a five-pound bag.
Oddly, wikipedia has an entry currently that describes how Israel Supreme Court President declared himself and his Court as the sovereign rulers of Israel, not subject to restraint by the Knesset.
I expect wiki to change the entry to make him a hero.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aharon_Barak
…One of the most significant impacts of Judge Barak on Israeli law is found in the change which he led with regard to all matters of justiciability.
Judge Barak was the instigator and leader of the outlook which regards the traditional doctrine of justiciability as inappropriately and unnecessarily limiting the matters which the court deals with. Under the leadership of Judge Barak, the Supreme Court significantly increased the [range of] fields in which it is [willing to intervene]…
…During his time as President of the Supreme Court, Barak advanced a judicial activist approach, whereby the court was not required to limit itself to judicial interpretation, but rather was permitted to fill the gaps in the law through judicial legislation at common law...
Yikes! And he’d be happy to act as an agent, if he isn’t one already. Crap.
“The State Department and USA Intelligence Community have also been trying to evict Viktor Orban, the Conservative PM of Hungary, for the last eight years.”
Looks like they haven’t done very well, then. Find out what Orban’s been doing to counter their interference, and copy him.
