US Military Warning of Russian Nuke Subs Off Coasts

U.S. military commanders and experts are sounding warnings about the buildup of Russian submarines off American coasts.

The Russian buildup of naval assets is more expansive than just the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, and it includes seas surrounding the United States, sources told Newsweek.

"Nuclear-powered submarines have been deploying off the coast of the United States and into the Mediterranean and elsewhere along Europe periphery," Russia Maritime Studies Institute (RMSI) Director Michael Peterson told Newsweek, warning the deployments "mirror Soviet style submarine deployments in the Cold War."

Among the assets off the coasts are nuclear-capable submarines in the Severodvinsk class, which was also has been warned by U.S. Air Force Gen. Glen VanHerck, who runs the Northern Command and NORAD.

"They just moved subs, their first [Severodvinsk submarine] into the Pacific," VanHerck warned last October. "Another is out in the Mediterranean right now, and another that's out on its way into the Atlantic. That will be a persistent, proximate threat capable of carrying a significant number of land-attack cruise missiles that can threaten our homeland."

Yeah, 6 civilian scuba divers chartered a boat and did it.

Placed 8 several-hundred pound shaped charges on pipes 20 miles apart, at 200’ depth.

Then detonated 6 of them at the same time, and got clean away.

Did I tell you about the time I climbed Mt. Everest barefoot?

At this point I question everything from the US military and US intelligence. One would logically assume that Russian boomers are in their assigned patrol areas, as are US boomers in theirs. If we have anyone left that’s competent we should have attack boats near the Russian boomers as a precaution already.

“Each one that goes to sea has an American or NATO sub on its tail”

Not so.

Instead of warning, why don’t we conduct some live ASW weapons training?

You are greatly underestimating the capability of civilian scuba divers to operate at deep depths. I am acquainted with several here in the Great lakes who routinely dive to depths in excess of 250’ using Trimix, electrically heated dry suits and stage bottles for decompression. Working at that depth with a 500-1000 lb object is difficult but not impossible. When rigged properly, that size of object will only weigh a few pounds. Inertia underwater can be difficult but manageable. I know this from personal experience with a 2800 lb wooden stock ship’s anchor that is now on my front lawn.

Preparing the charges and the detonation system would require an ordnance specialist but the underwater work could be done by experienced “civilian” technical divers using modern equipment.

Concerning your climbing of Mt. Everest barefoot, I would never have expected you to have Hobbit feet. :-)

Your response was what I was going to say, until I saw you already said it.

When I want to see a "lovely American girl", I put in a DVD with Grace Kelly, or Natalie Wood, or Patricia Neal, or ....

Tats, fat butts, nose rings, et al, are not "lovely."

Is this the first time they have done this? I seriously doubt we haven't cruised our nuclear submarines near Russia. Subtle intimidation is part of the game.

Is that a quote from from the Iranians, the Soviets, the North Koreans or the Red Chinese? Trying to figure out which America hating nation said that......

Any American with a sense of reality can say that our country's (or, more accurately, our government's) hypocrisy knows no bounds.

You can actually track certain US submarines are here. The Ohio-class, in particular, are those with the capability of firing nuclear ballistic missiles. (Although the four oldest Ohio-class submarines ostensibly had their nuclear warheads replaced with Tomahawk missiles some years back, the fact they have the capability of launching nuclear warheads is known, and would be a concern to any nation.)

As of this morning, for those whose locations were publicly known:

The USS Florida's last known public location (10-28-2022) was off the northern coast of Crete in the Mediterranean (specifically on the southern edge of the Akrotiri peninsula).

Meanwhile, just last year, the United States Navy publicly tweeted that the USS Nevada (an Ohio-class submarine) had just arrived in Guam (less than two thousand miles away from China, well within the operational range of a nuclear ballistic missile), and that the whole point was to remind China of America's presence in the West Pacific.

America can saber rattle with the best of them. To pretend we do otherwise is foolish.

“US Military Warning of Russian Nuke Subs Off Coasts”

I hope our Navy and Coast Guard are prepared to rescue the Russian sailors when their submarines sink themselves.

“ America can saber rattle with the best of them.”

That has zero connection to people who hate our country.
People on the “right” are making comments pretty much identical to shat the Marxists America haters said the 60’s.
Any sign of our nation projecting power around the world is met with self loathing comments .
