Why Female Mice Should be Used in Research
March 07, 2023

For over 50 years, researchers have preferentially used male mice in experiments, in part due to concern that the hormone cycle in females would cause behavioral variation that could negatively impact results. Over time, this practice has resulted in a poorer understanding of the female brain, likely contributing to the misdiagnosis of mental and neurological conditions in women, as well as the development of drugs that have more side effects for women.

"“This bias starts in basic science, but the repercussions are rolled into drug development, and lead to bias in drugs being produced, and how drugs are suited for the different sexes,” said Dana Levy, a research fellow in neurobiology at Harvard Medical School (HMS).
Now, a new study led by Levy has not only turned the long-held, sexist assumption on its head but has demonstrated the opposite—male mice are the ones that exhibit excessive behavioral variation that can harm research results."
What if the male mice identify as female?
Heh ... male mice experimented on, women hardest hit.
What about Trans-Mice?..........................
A recent news article said that there are 73 genders. Yet the author persists in identifying only 2 genders. The author is either stupid or a hater.
I thought this was gonna be a joke.....
No mention of the elephant in the room, that mice poorly represent humans in many ways. Their immune system, their neurology, their GI tract, etc. So, “mouse studies” have a high likelihood of being invalid.
The closest animal to the human immune system is the ferret, so much so that they are seen as the “canary in a coal mine” animal for epidemics.
As far as chromosomal pairs go, humans with 46, are between Arabian Coffee, with 44, and Water Buffalo or Tobacco, with 48.
I didn’t say this is easy.
“What about Trans-Mice?”
They’re ahead of us. They all have used the same spot in the cage for years.

AH! So the distinction male/female matters in mice! But not in humans!
A sure sign of insanity is the refusal to drop from one’s mind one of two contradictory assertions.
That’s great in theory, but in reality there is absolutely no way to distinguish which ones are male versus female
Yet for all of the shortcomings in research, women still tend to live significantly longer than men.
I vaguely recall reading about a study done in the 80’s, where researchers tried to see if there was a correlation between diet and uterine cancer. Throughout the study, none of the subjects developed uterine cancer, so the conclusion was that diet had no effect on uterine cancer rates.
It was only when you dig deep into the details of the study that one glaring problem turned up:
Every single participant was male.
Raise your hand if you’re shocked that a group of people who don’t have uteruses never developed cancer of the uterus?
Did anybody remember to ask the mice xe/xer pronouns? Did a biologist identify the women mice?
This is serious business these days. Just cannot be too careful about these things, can we?
Don’t forget, pigs are the animals with an epidermus and cooling system most like humans, while cows are the animals that have the same blood groups as humans.
