Up to 30,000 Russian casualties claimed in Bakhmut
BBC News ^ | 3/7/2023 | Paul Adams

Between 20,000 and 30,000 Russian troops have been killed and wounded in the battle for the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut since it began last summer, Western officials say.

The epic nature of the battle is out of all proportion to Bakhmut's strategic significance, they add.

But after more than six months of grinding, horrific fighting, the future of Bakhmut still hangs in the balance.

Since the fighting began, some 90% of its pre-invasion population has fled.

“Up to 30,000 Russian casualties claimed in Bakhmut”

I got a better one from the Western Media:

A bunch of Ukrainian Scuba Divers BLEW UP Nordstream!!!

Well, why not, and we’re pulling Shiite out of thin air.

It’s sad that posters on this forum seem to be rooting for the death of other people. We should be pushing for a ceasefire and peace talks.

You aren’t interested in how many Russian boys have died in the mud around Bakhmut just so keyboard warriors like you have a propaganda victory to plaster the internet with?

It’s a very defensible spot on the Donbas front.
Complex terrain, river, streams, lakes and reservoirs. A road hub. The rail doesn’t matter much unless it’s way behind the front. A good place to hold as a redoubt.

Very much like Verdun in 1914, save for the folkloric fame Verdun already had in those days, as a traditional border bastion.

Any folklore Bakhmut has, it has acquired in the course of this war.

The Ukrainians doing in Nordstream was my first take from last year. It’s not that hard.

Yep, and they swam out there, under the radar, with their fins and snorkels.

Why are you even posting anything here?

Donbass falls, ( Ethnic Russian provinces liberated) one of Vlads stated objectives is met. If you cared to read Vlads speech Feb 24 22, he clearly stated his objectives.

Vlad still holds all the cards.

“Vlad still holds all the cards.”

But he doesn’t hold Kyiv, Kherson, Lviv, and soon enough he won’t hold Crimea.

“Why are you even posting anything here?”

Because I’m bored and you are being silly.

As for how - no, they sailed there, in a ship. They found the pipeline through its publicly given GPS location in marine charts, well plotted for navigation safety reasons. Fine plotting could be by commercial sonar. Drop divers, lower the bomb over the side, divers guide bomb into place by giving directions to the ship, set the timer, and there you go.

This sort of thing is SOP in marine engineering.

Commercial diving and handling equipment.
Buy a suitable ship anywhere in Europe. A fishing trawler, an oilfield service vessel, etc. Just needs sonar and a suitable crane. There are tons of them.
The explosives could be straight from Ukraine. They have lots, notably old Naval mines and torpedoes, etc. But they could easily make a custom one too.
Ukraine has divers. Many work in contract gigs around the world.

“Hang in Balance” what a crock of BS. The Ukraine army is all but cut off with just one small road to retreat. Almost have the city is already occupied. The best case scene is for the Ukraines to pull back to artillery range of Bakhmut.

Russians lost about 50 men a day, the Ukes lose about 200-300 a day.
