Graham says he will introduce bill to ‘set the stage’ for US to use military force in Mexico

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Monday said he was prepared to introduce legislation to “set the stage” for U.S. military force in Mexico, saying it was time to “get tough” on the neighboring country after four Americans were kidnapped by armed men this week.

Graham told Fox News host Jesse Watters that he would follow the advice of former President Trump on Mexico policy.

“I would put Mexico on notice,” Graham said. “If you continue to give safe haven to drug dealers, then you are an enemy of the United States.”

Graham added he would “introduce legislation to make certain Mexican drug cartels foreign terrorist organizations under U.S. law and set the stage to use military force if necessary.”

“I would tell the Mexican government if you don’t clean up your act, we’re going to clean it up for you,” the senator said.

It was unclear what type of legislation the GOP lawmaker was suggesting. The Hill has reached out to Graham’s office for clarification.

Not sure on strategy on this.

I want the next president “45” to have a free hand for the most part. I don’t know what Linda means when he says bill to “set the Stage”

Mexico is a failed state. I wish we had a president who actually cared. Give the mexican govt an ultimatum. You will either help us or get out of our way while we militarily destroy all the cartels or we will occupy mexico.

Why didn’t they just build Trumps wall complete with doors so people could enter the country properly, legally, but nooooooo now we’re going to spend billions making war, a war we’d be sure to lose. WTF is wrong with our dumbass overlords?? How does anyone get to a position of authority and be this dumb. ???

FFS - build the border wall. It would automatically reduce crime in Mexico because the cartels would have a much more difficult time doing business across the border.

Of course, guys like Graham are never happy unless American soldiers are losing their lives somewhere.

To the situation on the border there, Sen. Graham is not fundamentally wrong. His paraphrasing of President Trump’s position is not inaccurate. The current status quo re the border and the cartels’ control of the territory and government infrastructure of Mexico is not tolerable or desirable. We have done this before there, just not to the degree needed now. I would theorize that a majority of the Mexican citizenry want change from where they are now.
It is a clear and present danger to the safety, security and sovereignty of the USA, as it stands now.

Talk’s cheap, especially with graham. Guess he figures a little chest thumping will bolster his image.

Well. Why not. Mexico is already at war with us. There is a full invasion and hundreds of thousands of Americans are dead as a result.

You are absolutely right that finishing the border wall correctly and guarding it would be a great start. Much to do beyond if we don’t just want it regularly breached thereafter.

Is there a country in the world that Lindsey doesn’t want to wage war on?

Wish I trusted them, I don’t. I have no doubt Biden would rather target conservative Americans than Mexicans (Philly speech). In fact, he’d never target Mexicans. Plus, I’d take the word of a car salesman over Linda. I’m a hard no.

Two. The District of Columbia and Ukraine.

Eventually, Mexico will deteriorate to the point where we will have no choice to occupy it. I don’t think we’re quite there yet, though.
