Tesla cuts prices on top end models

Just days after Tesla executives announced plans to improve affordability of their electric cars, Tesla has marked down prices on two of its top end models.

Reuters reported that the most recent price cuts are Tesla’s fifth time adjusting pricing since the start of the year, with the price drops ranging from 4 percent on the performance version of the Model S vehicle to 9 percent on the Model X vehicle. Reuters reported that Tesla dropped prices of both versions of the Model S by $5,000. According to Tesla’s website, the basic version of the Model S now costs $89,990 while the performance model, the Model S Plaid, costs $109,990.

When you think about the relative simplicity of an electric car, compared to the complexity of manufacturing a conventional ICE vehicle, at some point they should be considerably cheaper to manufacture. Once Tesla hits that economy of (manufacturing) scale “sweet spot” I do not see why these cars shouldn’t be on par with ICE, perhaps even cheaper.

Or, I could get one for each 200 miles of a 1,000 mile trip to NYC, and won’t have to recharge. Just park each one 200 miles apart on the highway.

Well, that decided it for me. I was planning on building a giant pile of hundred dollar bills in my backyard and inviting the neighborhood over for the mother of all bonfires, but now I’m gonna buy a Tesla.

Simplicity?

It’s not about the simplicity or complexity of manufacturing.

It’s about the high cost of the battery, which is in reality the fuel for the car. Those batteries ain’t cheap and the materials and effort to get the materials, ain’t cheap. And, that ‘fuel’ will last about 8-10 years, which then renders the vehicle expensive to ‘repair’.

Just don’t spend money on one if you’re planning to use it as a “getaway” car if your a smash and grabber burglar.

The non-irony is that the Dims who are trying to push everybody to drive only EV's are the same Dims who limit mining of the minerals needed for the batteries. Even cobalt is in abundance (in Minnesomalia), at least enough for the U.S. needs (especially if EV's are sold only on free market principles and aren't mandated).

Evidently the Dims are trying to make life miserable. It's never about the environment or their stated purpose. It's always about controlling the populace.

The 'reality' that I've heard and read is that, EV batteries lose about 50% capacity after about 5 years, and at about 8 years, you need to get a new one.

I know of 3 EV owners who gave up on their EVs because they couldn't put up with the hassle of having to recharge batteries almost daily, and a couple of them said their batteries held about 50-70% charge after about 5-6 years usage. Of course, the life expectancy of your EV battery varies, dependent upon your usage and environment. But, those 3 drivers traded in their EVs for regular ICE vehicles.

When I went to my local Ford dealer, there were about 20 EVs on the lot that had been traded in, and the salesman said that people weren't really interested in purchasing second-hand EVs. So, there's that bit of negative.

My daughter had ordered a Tesla Y, but gave up on it after she heard and read a few negative reports on EVs (not necessarily reports about the model Y).

You can ruin the ICE car more easily if not following the basic rules.
EV is not for everyone. If you drive long distance or unable to plug it every night it is not yours.
Otherwise it is outright superior. There is nothing to break and it is almost maintenance free, wouldaoe just great for 150-200 miles daily.

Superior, like for short distance driving. But, for over 100 years, ICE cars have been superior, otherwise, why didn't electric cars take hold or keep the hold, since they were the original cars, and people tried to bring them back into existence, but they always failed. No doubt, electric vehicles will stick around, but, ICE vehicles will still rule the road,and will do so forever.
