China increases its military budget by 7.1% - $230BN – to ’boost combat preparedness’ for ‘major tasks’ amid fears it will launch an invasion of Taiwan

China announced it will boost its military budget by nearly $230 billion this year amid concerns it will launch an invasion of Taiwan.

The money is set to 'boost combat preparedness and enhance military capabilities,' claimed Premier Li Keqiang ahead of a draft budget presented to the National People's Congress in Beijing.

It means China's military spending will grow at its fastest pace in four years and take up a larger share of its economy, marking the reversal of a two-decade trend which has seen the nation prioritize growth over its military capabilities.

Look at what has happen to Russian after they invade Ukraine.

The Ukraine military (on paper) was less then the Russian military.

Ukraine is a neighbor to Russia and their military could drive across a border to invade.

Ukraine has not been preparing for war over the past 70 years.

Yet over a year later they are still trying to gain control over the nation.

Now compare that to China and Taiwan.

The window to invade Taiwan is small, the location to land troops are small.

Taiwan has had over 70 years to prepare their defenses against an invasion.

The logistics of moving troops over open water when the defender’s air planes are within striking distance is almost suicidal.

The last point is that both China and Russian military is corrupt with rank based on loyalty to the “party” as opposed to merit (unfortunately this is becoming true with the American military as well).

There is nothing to prevent China from invading Taiwan, but it will not be a cake walk and the price to “win” may be more then it is worth.

You omitted a critical detail.

The West has flooded Ukraine with tens of billions of dollars in weapons, plus "boots on the ground" (aka "advisors") to help run things.

Ukraine has depleted Western piggy banks and military supplies. Should China attack Taiwan, the West might not be able to offer comparable support.

China is smart. Let the West deplete its resources in Ukraine. Then attack Taiwan.

I think that’s a good way to make it easier for China to steal the technology.

Not as bad as electing a Clinton, but still.

What do you mean boots on the ground and advisors?

Ukraine has not “depleted” America financially and weapon wise.

“China increases its military budget by 7.1% - $230BN”

If that is only 7% of their military budget some quick math tells me that they’re already spending NEARLY TWICE what we’re spending on the military, and they get FAR MORE for that money, since they don’t have Drag Queens running around their bases during drills.

So, too late, we already missed the boat regarding China.

I don’t need to explain anything. You stated we had not depleted our weapons hoard. This is demonstrably false. Go sell your neocon murderous BS somewhere else.

First, we haven’t sent them much of what our military depends on, and of the few things we did send them like 155 shells and stingers and Javelins, since they are being used against the enemy they were made for and being replaced, and you won’t tell us what the numbers are that are solely dedicated for and held in reserve for our own military, it can’t be too bad.

We are sending them some bridge-building units, did that upset you?

I mean NATO/CIA has got “advisors” in Ukraine. Private contractors. Assets. Whatever you want to call them. No way the CIA and/or American special forces aren’t in Ukraine.

Ukraine made us broke and unarmed?

Well, Ukraine has certainly added to our national debt. Not that it alone will break us. But considering all the other spending we're doing, it might well be the straw that breaks our camel's back.

And we only have so much surplus arms to spread around the globe before our own defenses begin to suffer. Our American Empire has been spreading itself a little thin over these past couple of decades. Once again, Ukraine alone won't break us. But considering all the stuff we left behind in Afghanistan, I'm thinking we're not looking too good.
