Sheriff: Mom shot family minutes before deputies arrived to evict them from foreclosed Ohio Township home

Investigators believe Theresa Cain shot her family members, killing three of them, just minutes before deputies arrived to serve them with eviction papers as they were removed from their foreclosed home...

(SNIP)

When deputies pulled up to the family home on Riebel Ridge Road in Ohio Township around 9:40 a.m. Monday, Theresa Cain was standing on the patio outside, Leahy said.

Deputies expected no issues. They checked with her before Monday to ensure all would go smoothly. She had been cooperative. She indicated she still had a few things to pack.

She requested and received a few extra hours but agreed the family would be ready to vacate the premises by 10 a.m. Monday. Theresa Cain had assured the sheriff’s office the family had a place to go.

But as soon as she saw them pulling up, she quickly went inside the house, the sheriff said.

A deputy knocked on the front and then back doors. No one answered. The deputy stepped inside the home and called out to her, announcing the sheriff’s office had arrived.

He heard a muffled “No, no, no, no,” Leahy said, followed by a “very fast” succession of gunfire.

She fired five gunshots in just under 3.5 seconds, ones they now believe were meant to keep deputies away - and then turned the gun on herself, he said.

When deputies were able to safely venture further into the home, they found her dead upstairs along with her 13-year-old son, Ethan Cain and her 74-year-old father William Felton, who lived with them.

Her daughter, Samantha Cain, 20, was critically hurt and remains in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Deputies found Theresa Cain’s husband, Steven Cain, 50, on a downstairs couch.

The sheriff said their investigation determined she gunned her husband down first.

Police say nothing in the house was packed for moving. They believe she never told her husband, father, or children about the eviction.

folks,

There are serious serious issues with the overall health of the USA right now.
It seems to be suffering from internal bleeding, a major breakdown in mental functioning, gang-green and all sorts of fungi.
And thats just the internal factors. The poor country is also being tormented day and night by Alpha-Beta’s vs. lamba lambda lamda level abuse by China and the rest of the world.

It’s simply too beaten and weak to want to live anymore.

Nice that we have billions of dollars to send to Ukraine... Inflation’s not a problem for American families. Whatever it costs to keep Joe and Hunter in the good graces of the Ukrainian money launderers...

We've become a nation of narcissists. This case is an example.

If the theory by police is correct, this woman hid secrets from her family. Then, she never owned up to her mistakes. Instead, she decided to murder her family and kill herself. Police say the family members must have been awake and aware of what was happening.

People like this killer (the woman) have many secrets. They live double-lives. Then, they get caught up in their lies.

If this woman did not tell her family about the eviction, then she probably caused the financial problems herself. She probably overspent and/or mismanaged money.

Then, rather than come clean, she decided to murder everyone.

What is amazing to me is how fast this worked. She gets foreclosed, police show up, deaths occur. If they had been squatters, it would have taken a year, multiple court findings, and they would have had a twitter campaign on how evil the real owners were.

i’m with you on that.

40+ years ago, I’d say 1980 election would prove you wrong, but today, nope.

“Tough times create strong men, strong men create easy times. Easy times create weak men, weak men create tough times”

We are in the weak men make tough times phase of the life cycle right now.
things will get worse before they get better, thats for sure.
we are in a leaderless generation right now

The mortgage company foreclosed on the property back in May 2022.

But, you asked a good question - why do squatters get to stay on a property but homeowners are kicked out?

Home owners have skin in the game and tend to vote republican.

Squatters have no skin in the game and tend to vote democrat.

I am very sorry this happened.

My family owns rentals and it can be VERY difficult to get out non-paying tenants. In one case, it took almost two years - a lefty judge kept giving them 90 more days, 90 more days, 90 more days - while they trashed the place and tore up the (nice) neighborhood. Neighbors told us police were called constantly to the residence.

The only reason we won was because they showed up late to court and the judge ruled in our favor - only b/c of that.

When the sheriff came to actually forcibly remove the one person left - a mentally ill woman, they wouldn’t go in b/c she was obviously mentally ill. She was not the original tenant, he had allowed this woman to move in and then she became a “tenant” according to California law, subject to the same laws as a paying tenant. We had to wait until mental health services showed up to help with the eviction.

My brother wouldn’t let me go in the house after we finally got her out - the water and power had been cut off for weeks, and the house was completely trashed, with garbage and feces everywhere - there were holes punched in the garage walls, the tile in the kitchen had been broken out and the toilets broken - I mean the porcelain itself was destroyed.

I tell everyone I know that according to California law - if you let a guest stay in your home for more than THREE days, they become an “at-will tenant” - subject to the same eviction laws as a paying tenant. It’s an entire long, process to get them out. And you may not win. If you lock them out, you will be subjected to a $100/day fine.
