Marco Rubio Reintroduces Bill to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent
New York Post ^ | March 4, 2023 | Matthew Sedacca

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) reintroduced bipartisan legislation that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent and end the tiresome, twice-a-year adjusting of the clocks.

“This ritual of changing time twice a year is stupid,” Rubio said. “Locking the clock has overwhelming bipartisan and popular support. This Congress, I hope that we can finally get it done.”

A previous version of the bill, known as the Sunshine Protection Act of 2023, unanimously passed in the Senate last year but languished in the House of Representatives for months.

Daylight time vs. Standard time becomes less significant the close one goes to the Tropics.

Now if a Senator from MN, ME, or WA were to propose...

I hope it gets done this year. I see no opposition to this bill yet it always dies at the end of each session.

I’ve always heard conflicting things, as to whether daylight time saves energy or not.

Current LED technology put that question to rest. Further savings could probably be made by adopting internet connected motion sensors/public wifi repeaters on everything, including street lights.

Rubio's Florida is much closer to the equator, where sunrise/sunset varies little throughout the year. Living in freezing cold northern states only made sense when it kept out the wild equator psychopaths, which thanks to Demonrats is no longer the case. The energy consumption/carbon emissions from home heating in northern states no longer has the same quality of life benefits, and solar there doesn't make sense.

We could get the same effect by adjusting the Earth’s obliquity of the ecliptic... (Axial tilt)

Right after we get all those mirrors orbiting to cut off the excess sunlight...

I’m all for bringing on permanent daylight savings time-

Living in a rural area, daylight savings time actually is the best fit-for those who live in these remote areas and drive to work in a town/city or as part of their jobs, that extra hour of daylight is helpful since there is a good bit of distance between towns, etc-it is also helpful for those of us who feed livestock in the evening after work and/or gather up chickens and other birds or small stock like goats and bring them into coops/sheds/barns before dark to protect them from predators like mountain lions, coyotes, etc that are more active at night.

My cub went to school just before dawn-and we build little shelters on the roads for kids to wait for the bus-so they are safe from/unnoticed by predators-with both 2 and 4 legs-I’ve seen them in rural NM as well. When I was a kid-also in a rural area-the same was true...

There is enough light in most cities to create a glow we can see out here, nearly 50 miles from the city-it is called light pollution-surely all those lights are enough to light the way to a school bus stop-it isn’t like there are any coyotes or mountains lions running around the streets in the neighborhoods...

I’ve always heard conflicting things, as to whether daylight time saves energy or not.

The reason most of Arizona is on year-round standard time is that daylight savings time, when tried in 1967, proved to increase air-conditioning energy use significantly for businesses and government offices.

I like permanent standard time here in Arizona. In the summer, you just want the sun to go away and not subject you to another hour of heat and glare. I’m always up before sunrise anyway, summer or winter.

I know it’s a different situation in northern states. That’s why the question of DST should be left to each state. Congress, butt out.

Standard Time is the way to go. We lived with it since the beginning of “time”. Then some politician thought messing with our bodies twice a year was a good idea...with “0” benefits.

I believe it's been resolved that Standard Time is what is favorable for our bodies and brains.

What time zone are you talking.
