Democrats ruin every nice place they gain control of. You’d think American voters would be able to figure this out.

At one time Coure d’ lane (I know I spelled it wrong) used to have the reputation of being anti lib, but that has probably changed also.

When I moved there in 1977 I had been visiting there on the weekends since 1974 going to Lake Travis with friends from school that owned property in the Lago Vista area. The lake was clean and had moderate use on the weekends. IH-35 & Hwy 290 as well as Hwy 183 where it intersected with both of those were all 2 lanes each way and considered the edge of rural.

Pull up a map of that area now, Spaghetti Bowl and wall to wall A$$holes.

Population was around .3 million and that was with UT out of session. Add probably 20K when in session. Now it’s about 1 million and 60K.

The 80’s real estate boom with Dell added to the existing IBM was when things took a turn into a sh!thole..

I left in 1988 and have been through a couple of times but found it even worse.

Avoid it completely now.

Some years back, we visited Austin. We saw a shop that sold some Chech pastries and we had been told to try them

We picked the wrong shop. The lady at the counter was Korean and the cook was Hispanic. In the corner there was a Thai shrine that was the property of the owner.

Someone mentioned Baltimore earlier. They keep hovering around their record breaking murder rate every year but haven’t been able to surpass it.

There is a very busy Level 1 trauma center right downtown. Shootings are always up but deaths are down. That is not due to better policing, instead to better trauma care

“Translation: Medical advances saved some of those. Those that would have otherwise been classified as murders”

You are certainly correct. For example, Stroger Hospital (formerly Cook County Hospital) in Chicago has an ER the military has observed for tips on GSW (gunshot wounds). If they can get you in there alive, you will probably stay alive-although that might not be a desirable outcome.

And best of all, it’s FREE if you have no money/insurance!

Texas state legislators of both parties will “get it” when they get mugged in town.

That is what happened to the lady Congress-critter in DC. After she got mugged in her apartment building both parties agreed to overturn DC’s latest leftist de-policing garbage.

Politicians are the last to figure it out...

Good. I live in Washington State and have watched Seattle get what it deserves, we’re not at the bottom yet, nor are the other dysfunctional cities mentioned here. Until we hit bottom and all the enablers have been used up, we’re going to see more criminality. So, stay safe, and follow my tagline.

The state should revoke the city’s charter which would get rid of the current city government. Maybe create a state controlled government district where the authorities would be appointed by the state. Then extend that to the county. That would get rid of the historically liberal DA and replace with a state appointed prosecutor.

Then take on the issue of the University.

All law enforcement agencies and judicial systems in the USA are being rendered ineffective because politicians are being elected who are intimidated and controlled by the anti-social, lawless segments of the population. And NOTHING is going to change that dynamic until the segment of the population that is NOT anti-social and NOT lawless decides that enough is enough and elects only politicians who vow a total commitment to 100% compliance with the law.

Before the GWOT, military medics would do rotations at inner city, Level 1 trauma centers, to get experience in treating gunshot, stabbings and other trauma, usually from car accidents.

The medics from the military bases in Georgia would go to hospitals like Grady, in Atlanta. Perhaps one of the best for trauma and saving a life.

Then the war started. The military has a very large number of doctors that are Reservists. When they get called up, their treatment protocols are changed. Life over Limb. And they can do and try things on a GI that they probably wouldn’t be able to do in a hospital back home.

Well, those Reservists are now back home in that hospital down the road. And they brought back treatment methods and options that weren’t known or accepted before.

Part of the Weird Austin experience is Naked Lisa, usually found wandering in the vicinity of 6th street, the former safe haven for music venues. Sometimes she has an apron-thing on as seen below, but mostly not. Bring the wife, bring the kids, to the greatest free-ranging zoo in the lone star state.
