Cops quit woke Austin in droves, plunging Texas city into crisis: ‘If you’re conservative, it’s a hostile place’

Texas’ woke capital, Austin, is in the midst of a policing crisis with over 300 vacancies and cops quitting because they feel disrespected, multiple sources tell The Post.

“We’re right there with Portland and Seattle and San Francisco as being one of those places where if you’re at all conservative or in law enforcement, it’s become a hostile place,” Lt. Brian Moon, who retired last month, told The Post of the city he protected for 23 years.

Another 77 officers are expected to retire before the end of March — on top of 264 existing vacancies, according to the Austin Police Association.

Austin Police Department’s staffing is so bad, 911 calls are being redirected to the 311 non-emergency number because there aren’t enough cops to solve crimes.

“If you come home and find your home burglarized, calls like that are now going to 311,” said police union president Thomas Villarreal. “You’re not getting a police response to many property crimes if it’s not a violent crime that is currently ongoing.”

The beleaguered department has also pulled detectives from solving cases to act as patrol officers, Berry said.

Moody, a former watch commander, started working for the Austin Police Department in 1999 and says things have dramatically changed. In 2021, the city recorded a record 88 homicides and although that number decreased in 2022, the first six months of the year saw dramatic increases in the number of rapes, with 179, and almost 2,000 aggravated assaults, according to local news site KAXN.

The problem in Texas is largely the same as in the US house and senate: The fake republicans and democrats are a majority. Too many clueless voters keep re-electing assistant democrats. The speakers of the Texas house are always Paul Ryan types.

It’s the capital of Texas for heavens sakes. Abbott needs to do more than make suggestions. A lot more.

Are there any places in America that are outright hostile to leftists? Because I want to go there.

Idaho and Florida have a reputation for being anti-woke. But I'm sure the Left is working on that.

I recall back in 1982 an acquaintance telling me that Austin was one of the nicest places to lie in Texas. I guess it's now past it's "best by" date and a rotting fruit draws a lot of vermin.

Abbott criticized the indictments of Austin police and said he might pardon them if they are convicted. Meanwhile the city coucil OKed payments for 2 people injured by bean bags fired at them. Some of the bean bags allegedly had expired. Lawyers for the officers said the bean bags were “unknowingly defective.”

Those saying Austin police are too harsh should live in San Antonio and tell me they are better there.

Idaho will definitely change in the coming decade. It won’t be a blue state any time soon, but it’s on the path largely through West Coast migration.

After 20 years in Austin, we moved to Ft Worth 4 years ago. I’ve only been back once to help take care of my Dad when he had COVID. After he got better, we relocated them to Ft. Worth too.

I have a friend who lives downtown west side of 35, and he’s been mugged at gunpoint twice in the last 2 years.

A traffic-drenched nightmare of a city, it will be a smoking hole in the ground in 10 years.

One factor is the college kids who come and stay forever. Easy to brainwash with nonsense, evidently.

I never blow it out my ass

I may be factually wrong around 1-2% and unlike 99% here I admit it

I’ve lived in both cities although far longer in Nashville which is contradictory considering I like Austin better

We leased 12,000 acres from the huge BF Goodrich ranch north of Burnet on the east side of the lake for over a decade 1971-1984

Beaver creek hunting camp on 2341

I dated a stripper at Foxys in 1981-82 man she was fine as grits
Student from Dallas

I know my way around there

The current metro area population of Austin in 2023 is 2,228,000, a 2.39% increase from 2022. The metro area population of Austin in 2022 was 2,176,000, a 2.79% increase from 2021. The metro area population of Austin in 2021 was 2,117,000, a 3.12% increase from 2020

In 2021, the population of the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin metropolitan area in the United States was about 2.01 million people. This was a slight increase from the previous year, when the population was about two million people.

Actually I think I was wrong

Nashville is about same size now because nash metro is a lot more than Franklin and Nashville proper and Murfreesboro

Count Wilson and Dickson and cheatham and Maury and Robertson and Montgomery and sumner and it’s much higher than 2m prolly another half million minimum

They are streaming in mostly from California
I
Then again if you take Austin fifty miles radius I’d bet it’s a bit larger reaching out to a Bastrop

Like I said they are close

Austin by a nose

Austin is weirder as they say

When. I was a kid my freak peeps went to San Francisco or Austin or maybe boulder

Now nearly all are more non pc conservative than average poster here

And Elon Musk chose Austin over Tulsa. Said he couldn’t get his CA staff to relocate to Oklahoma. I’m sure the people in Oklahoma don’t want CA rugRATS.
