Georgia lawmakers setting framework for EV era

As the state prepares to build a network of electric vehicle charging stations across Georgia, the General Assembly is grappling with how they should be operated and how to tax the electricity they sell to EV owners.

Separate bills making their way through the Georgia House and Senate would go a long way toward setting the stage for ending the era of the internal combustion engine and bringing on a new generation of EVs.

“You’re fixing to see a change in this country,” state Rep. Alan Powell, R-Hartwell, said March 1 shortly before House lawmakers unanimously passed their EV bill. “This is to get us prepared for the future.”

House Bill 406, and a Senate EV bill that cleared that chamber’s Regulated Industries Committee the same day, would end the practice of EV owners paying to charge their vehicles based on the time it takes. Instead, they would be charged by the kilowatt-hour.

That’s the most important part of the two bills, said Anne Blair, Atlanta-based senior director of policy for the Washington, D.C.-headquartered Electrification Coalition, a nonpartisan nonprofit working to facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.

“It will be needed to qualify for federal funding,” she said.

"Federal funding" is how the federal government forces states to comply with their demands. I remember when seatbelts became a requirement. At first, any criminal charges were to be a secondary offense, meaning they couldn't pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt, but they could add on the charges should you be charged with another moving violation while driving. Soon, the feds started withholding highway funds from states that didn't enact stronger seat belt laws.

And in other capitol news in Georgia,

https://capitol-beat.org/2023/03/georgia-house-passes-tenants-rights-bill/

“Legislation guaranteeing new rights to renters in Georgia passed the state House of Representatives unanimously this week.

House Bill 404, which now moves to the state Senate, would require rental properties to be “fit for human habitation” upon signing a lease, and landlords would be required to maintain their properties throughout the lease.”

Note that there is no landlord rights in the bill that requires the tenant not to trash the place and make it unfit for human habitation.

Electric vehicles are a massive scam. Even Elon Musk (Mr. Tesla himself) says most of the world cannot switch to electric vehicles because there is not enough grid electricity NOR the raw materials to make the batteries at massive scale.

They will outlaw gasoline and diesel vehicles and then announce electric vehicles are not practical to replace them at large scale.

Then, THEY WILL OUTLAW ALL PERSONAL VEHICLES.

No cars equal no liberty. You will be able to travel as far as you can pedal a bicycle.

YOU ARE ALL SUCKERS.

These politicians are out of their minds.

Let them drive these little fire traps dependent on rare earth minerals from China.

And where are the Georgia idiots going to get the electricity to power these inefficient “cars?”

EVs are heavy compared to the equivalent ICE. That implies more wear and tear on roads than current cars and trucks. EVs should be taxed for roads at a proportionately higher rate than ICE vehicles are taxed?

Everyone on this thread is missing the point.

We know that EVs aren't feasible due to our obsolete power grid.

We know that once they catch on fire, they are extremely difficult to extinguish because of the combustible materials that keep reigniting.

We know that in order for EVs to work, they have to massively subsidized and mandated.

This is all about control. Technocrats want to monitor the miles you drive and where you are going, and if you make a statement disapproving on social media, your car is cut off in the middle of nowhere.

So stop wasting time debating the pros and cons with the Left, they don't care about that. Just tell them in no uncertain terms that you're not driving an EV, period.

EVs will not take over and the ICE will not go away until there is a viable and better alternative. Their influence is an unnatural pressure on the free market system. Like every other interference before it free individuals will find alternatives to continue using their ICEs. Even if the government attempts to outlaw them.

It will be Prohibition all over again.

And they rewarded one company, whose stock is cratering, with $1,500,000,000 in tax breaks.

I’m waiting for all the Kemp and Raffensberger cheerleaders to chime in on how great they are.

Georgia is done folks.

Here’s the best part. If Abrams had won, the legislature would be lined up against her.

Now that Kemp was allowed to stay, since he’s doing the bidding of the Left anyway, it’s smooth sailing.

As Schumer said….first we take Georgia the we take the country.

And folks will still vote for these POSs

Good observation, Frank. Thanks for this glimmer of light in this dark Georgia tunnel that RINOs built.

As someone else observed: “You can fool some of the people some of the time. And all the people some of the time. But you can’t fool all the people all of the time.”
