Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania want newly-elected Democrat US Sen. John Fetterman to show his face or resign.
The new senator, who was sworn into office Jan. 3 after defeating Republican opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz in a hotly-contested race last November, has been MIA since mid-February, when he was checked into the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center reportedly suffering clinical depression.
“Regarding the absent Senator,” the Washington County Republican Party wrote in a press release Monday.

I wish I could find out if 50-49 votes constituted legitimate passage of bills. I have a feeling that it doesn’t.
“Of course, if the man is in a coma or dead, there would be no reason for his wife to visit. If he is brain dead, his wife would not want to be put on the spot by American journalists wanting to know how the senator is doing.”
Post of the day.
No kidding! If he actually DID "resign", the RATS would IMMEDIATELY appoint his wife to fill the vacancy in a millisecond, and she would then IMMEDIATELY begin rubber stamping whatever Marxist legislation they want.
Same reason I don't EVER want Joe Biden to "resign" before the end of his term, or we'll have to suffer under the regime of Heels Up Harris, which would make Biden's godawful tenure look GOOD in comparison.
It's better to have the RATS maintain their delusion of a "majority" on paper, with Fetterfreak and Feinswine both technicality "in power" but having zero "presence" and voting record in the Senate whatsoever.
That means in REALITY, it will be a 49-49 split in the Senate, and the RATS will be able to pass ZERO major legislation. Even BETTER, all we need is either Manchin or Sinema (or BOTH!) to go off the RAT reservation on any given day, and we'd actually able to pass GOOD legislation thru a "Democrat majority" Senate!
Pennsylvania GOP, please STFU and don't interfere when your enemy is neutering themselves.
RE: Show your face or resign....
Does he have to?
As they say, if my dog had a face as ugly as his I’d shave his rear end and teach him to walk backwards.
As long as there are 51 Senators present (half plus one) they have a quorum and can conduct business including votes on bills.
Any number of times there have been Senators who could not be present for various reasons and so they could not vote.
I believe the Dems have to delay Fetterman’s demise until some time in April, after which the Dem Governor can appoint a replacement, else they have to hold a new election. Fetterman has always been a placeholder.
Fetterman is on a free ride in the hospital and receiving a fat salary besides.
There are not enough sentient senators to scare them.
My guess is that he had a second debilitating stroke.
WHY is he hospitalized for DEPRESSION??
I think the Senate can STILL VOTE in abstensia.....not the House.
How is a PA Senator replaced? New one appointed by the Governor? A new election?
It’s amazing how many freepers don’t understand this. Resign / die before August and there’s an election. After that point though the Governor gets to appoint the replacement.
Or, repubs can keep mum and not be branded as mean and let things coast until August with a Democratic senate majority and I’m sure there will be lots of bills and laws that Schumer will allow to come to vote with Fetterman not present. Not.
Yeah, but Billy, they DO vote. They “make their mark” on whatever docs they are told to. No, they can’t propose bills or make oral arguments.
But I get your point. They absolutely would get Mrs. Fetterman Massacre, the Human Ox-tress.
Remember Me-Again throwing her little tantrum about someone at the White House pointing out that her dad's vote was effectively null?
Remember their bringing in Robert Byrd who was probably comatose so he could "vote"?
So unless they have changed the rules drastically, no. Senators must be present to vote.
Thank you for that explanation.
That does explain their actions.
This kind of thing does vary from state to state.
GREAT!
