SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California's COVID-19 state of emergency officially ends Tuesday, bringing a symbolic close to one of the most challenging chapters of state history and of Gov. Gavin Newsom's political career.
The Democratic governor declared the state of emergency three years ago, giving himself broad executive powers to protect Californians from an unpredictable and deadly virus. After previously resisting GOP pressure to end the emergency as conditions improved, Newsom now says California is finally ready to move forward.
"California is better prepared and that's because we have a serious Legislature and the health ecosystem in California is second to none in the country," Newsom said.
Anticipating rapid spread of the virus that could overwhelm hospitals, the proclamation gave the governor the legal authority to make, amend and rescind state regulations, suspend state statutes and redirect state funds. The emergency declaration also allowed Newsom to commandeer private property, including hospitals, medical labs, hotels and motels.
Although the pandemic solidified Newsom's legacy as a crisis governor, his use of power opened him up to scrutiny from across the political spectrum. His decisions to enact mask and vaccine mandates and ever-shifting restrictions on businesses and everyday activities turned him into a GOP caricature of oppressive Democratic rule.

The dempanic is over. Now it’s time to convince the RATS that multiple ballot mail in voting is over.
We were in a state of emergency? Up here in the North Sacramento Valley, I didn’t even notice....
Oh happy happy joy joy, dear leader Newsom, has finally acknowledged, what we all knew a year and a half ago.
Should never have been decreed in the first place.
So it took 3 years to “flatten the curve” I guess.
So, the emergency is over now that the federal government has stopped sending the state pandemic money. OK. Got it.
Does that mean that local health care offices will no longer require masks being worn in order to enter the building?
Not to mention flattening millions of people's lives and livelihoods, any notion of Constitutional rights, due process, election integrity, etc.
Wow! He beat Brandon! Brandon’s ‘man-made, manufactured, never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste’ crisis hasn’t officially ended yet, so he can use his BOGUS ‘Wartime Powers’ to milk Taxpayers for the cost of forgiving all those student loans!
Newsom proves to be pro-active, so he has my vote!
NOT! *SPIT*
‘Now it’s time to convince the RATS that multiple ballot mail in voting is over.’
if the pubbies were winning the popular vote in numerous consecutive presidential elections, as the dems are, you guys would be all for mail in voting...just as if the dems scored wins via electoral college you would all be for abolishing it...
bottom line, get used to mail in voting, it ain’t going anywhere...
I just laugh to myself when I see all the liberals I know who claimed “they would wear masks for the rest of their lives” now as they have given up on the farce.
Way to shut that door after the horses have left!!! Cat like reflexes.
What next? Close the border....in 10 more years?
These lefties are SO predictable.
Oh, yeah, "serious." All the laughable clown stuff they do every year is real "serious." That's what that is.
On to the next grift.
He misspelled “series”.
Did I just uncover a troll “you guys”?
So now maybe universities wont force kids to take experimental injections?
NEXT EMERGENCY will be WHERE IS THE $$$$ FOR THE REPARATIONS???
