Trump’s polling strength causes heartburn for Senate GOP
Yahoo News ^ | 2/28/23 | Alexander Bolton

A Fox News survey showing former President Trump leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by 15 points among Republican presidential primary voters is the latest cause for heartburn among Senate Republicans who don’t think Trump can win a general election match-up against President Biden.

Predictions by key Senate Republicans that Trump would fade as the 2024 election approached are being upended, putting pressure on party leaders in Washington to consider embracing the former president once again.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other Republicans blamed the “chaos” surrounding Trump for the party’s disappointing performance in the 2022 midterm election. Some thought it would be the final straw to keep Trump off the presidential ticket next year.

And McConnell had privately told several Senate GOP colleagues that Trump’s political strength would fade the more time he spent outside the Oval Office, according to two Republican senators who spoke to The Hill.

Yet a Fox News poll of 1,006 registered voters nationwide found Trump leading DeSantis 43 percent to 28 percent among GOP primary voters in a hypothetical match-up.

Republican strategists say the poll shows Trump is more resilient than many party insiders expected. And they warn that Republican senators and other party establishment figures who have ramped up their criticism of Trump since he lost the 2020 election would be wise to carefully reconsider his chances of winning the presidential nomination next year.

“I think Trump’s position is stronger than I thought it was,” said Vin Weber, a GOP strategist and former member of the House GOP leadership.

He cited reports Trump has put together a more professional campaign operation than what he had previously.

“If those articles are true, then Trump is running a very different campaign than he ran in 2016 or 2020. A formidable campaign with a disciplined candidate and 15-point lead in the polls today is more important than just a 15-point lead in the polls,” he said.

Weber said “whatever doubts people may have about Trump’s inevitability … that should not be confused with a presumption that he’s not going to win.”

“I think the Republicans that proceed on the assumption that Donald Trump will not be our candidate are taking a huge risk,” he added.

Is Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky)
a bigger traitor to Ky (Fentanyl from him), to the GOP
(lost last election because of him), or to
the USA (beholden to CCP and Ukraine over the the USA)?

who don’t think Trump can win a general election match-up against President Biden

Those senators were likely in the never-Trump category to begin with.

And they should know that Trump won the 2020 election. Trump 'lost' only through election theft by the Biden campaign and DNC and corrupt election officials.

Those senators fear Trump and don't want to face him when he gets re-elected.

So, it's not about fearing that Trump can't win against Biden; it's about Trump winning and then having to face him.

McConnell and other republicans were the cause of much of that "chaos" with their threatening and shackling of Trump for 2-3 years because meh Russia collusion.

Desanctimonius’ #s are with 90% glowing press while every mainstream outlet is positioning Trump as Satan incarnate (sickening really). I enjoy seeing some of the videos of Trump discussing thr China virus in April 2020 though. If everyone wldidnt think he was the Devil incarnate the country would be so much healthier on all levels right now. That’s why Trump is accurate to say that the media is the enemy of the people.

Given the current state of ballot sowing and harvesting, DeSantis can’t win either.

The GOPee needs to fix their approach to getting enough of the right ballots and counting same.

Correct. Trump won re-election and had it stolen from him. There is no other reason that all those battleground states in which Trump had a solid lead all suddenly stopped counting at 3AM when most people were sleeping, only to suddenly and magically "find" hundreds of thousands of BIDEN votes in each of those state, just enough to put him over the top.

It was a blatant steal of a presidential election and only made possible because many spineless and rotten to the core Republicans either stood by and let it happen or they were actively involved in the steal because they hated Trump more than the loved their country.

This is why I don't even entertain DeSantis or anybody else as the nominee this year. Trump has my vote for 2024 no matter what. I know that millions of others agree with me. The only way that changes is if Trump either drops out of that race or dies between now and then. Then I will consider another candidate.

I don’t think any republican can win against a democrat for president, unless it’s a republican squish like Haley, Jeb or Romney.

The deep state and their globalist allies won’t let it happen again.

Trump is in a strong position, especially as Biden continues to fumble on every issue. The Dims will be back to their old evil ways with ballot harvesting, but there is some good news for us going into 2024. The Dims no longer control the Twitter narrative, and there are plenty of other social media sites that don’t lean hard left. We need to have a MASSIVE ground game, getting people to register to vote, and getting them to their polling place. We can beat the Dims at their own game.
