To judge by several early polls, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has a decent shot of beating former President Donald Trump in the race to win the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Some liberals have pronounced this terrible news — because, they say, a DeSantis presidency would be just as awful as, and perhaps even worse than, a second Trump term.
This is wrong. A DeSantis presidency would be bad in many ways, and my fellow liberals should fight with all they have to prevent it. But Mr. DeSantis almost certainly would not be worse than Mr. Trump.
Exaggerating the threat posed by the Florida governor could inadvertently increase Mr. Trump’s prospects in the Republican primaries.

I smell a Trump endorsement.
Getting liberal newspaper endorsements is sure to help DeSantis. /sarc

Trump is used to winning but this is a little different
field that he's playing in.
If Biden is still able to move about and be in public some
during the next cycle and keeps Madam Harris as his VP
then they will be hard to beat, imo.
The Dems are on the road to a female President. They could
claim setting the path for both a black and female president.
History in the making for those of that live long enough .
The same scenario could play out now if Biden leaves office for
any reason now as he has served over 24 months of this term.
VP Harris could move up and be elected two more terms if the
public would choose to do so.
They have some allies on the FR. Apparently the most effective conservative non-woke Governor in the USA is a WEF stooge because something. While lockdown Pfizer bumpstock Trump who appointed a raft of traitor is more conservative somehow.
Trump is their golden goose. He gave them mail in ballots, big pharma billions here and how many countries. Monthlong covid checks so they could test run universal basic income, travel restrictions unless you’re an unvetted Syrian, no freedom to assemble, unless you’re burning cities and a bumpstock ban… because what 2A.
What did he deny them? Big government spending. Nope.
Records matter. Voting for a NY liberal is going to cost us more freedom.
Vax kneelers are bringing holocaust levels of obey without question.
You’re going to shrill for an anti 2A liberal. Barf.
His record matters. I watched people die alone in our hospital, nursing home.
People denied the decency of being loved in their final hours.
“The media gave Trump more coverage than all thw other candidates of both parties combines combined, so they did elect him.”
You’re confused, Nick. First off, you’re not differentiating between coverage during the primaries, and coverage during the general election. It’s true that he got more coverage than his opponents during the primary season, but that was a function of two separate dynamics.
The first was that Trump went out and made news. He used his marketing knowledge to put himself in the headlines. All those supposedly controversial statements of his served a purpose.
The second thing was that the media were only too happy to give Trump lots of coverage during the primaries. Not only was it good for their ratings, but many believed that he would be easy to beat during the general election, so Trump getting the nomination was not a concern for them.
Once Trump got the nomination, media coverage became less friendly. Trump still gave them plenty of reasons to cover him. He still had his weekly scandals that came and went, and his controversial statements to cover. But their coverage of such stories took on a more disapproving tone than was present during the primary season coverage.
Hell, they'll 'exaggerate' the purity of gentle spring rain!
