Biden admin quietly admits White House's 9,000 unused oil permits talking point is wrong

Alaska leaders demand Biden administration 'not kill' oil drilling project The Biden administration quietly updated a federal database showing how many unused oil and gas drilling permits it has approved, reducing the number by more than 2,000.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) revised the current number of approved applications for permits to drill (APD) — which oil and gas companies are required to file once they identify a deposit on a lease that can be tapped — down from an estimated 9,000 to less than 6,700. The BLM, a subagency of the Department of the Interior (DOI), blamed the revision on a Trump-era technical change that it hadn't properly accounted for.

"As of February 2023, companies have over 6,600 approved and unused drilling permits available on federal lands," the BLM said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "This number has been updated to account for a reporting discrepancy resulting from a transition to a new database in mid-2020."

The change suggests that President Biden and administration officials had overstated the extent to which oil and gas companies have neglected producing on approved permits amid the global energy crisis last year.

New database discrepancy? Seriously? These people lie and blame everyone else…treasonous scumbags. It’s a wonder why we continue to put up with them.

Doesn’t matter. With the Democrat Party it’s always “How can we fool them today?”

“Biden Admin quietly admits that Barack Obama has been serving a third term as president since January 2021 because Joe is effectively brain dead.”

Yep, it’s Trump’s and the oil companies’ fault, not the fault of such entities as the lawsuit mills with fancy names like the Center for Biological Diversity.

Will someone in the press be educated enough to say there needs to be permits in place to recover oil if it is worth $20 or $220/B. That is a process that takes 18-48 months. That unless oil price is $140 bucks most US permits are not going to be exercised, but the US tax payer makes a few bucks off the oil and gas indstury for said option. A remote Oil pad could dig a well could go from a pad to pumping in 30-70 days if the cost of production is $20 and the volume to sell it is high enough at $220/B.

There is also no reason the drilling platform cannot be 5 to 10 miles away from everything but a service road.

The lack of education on what keeps people alive and voting is insane in the elected class. That oil has to move to market at very few points at sensible rate is also lost on these folks.

I thought the gulf wildcats were nuts for spending the money to be offshore or in the swamp and out of view, they were insanely right.

not quite...two different things: leases and drilling permits. Leases give a right to explore and look for deposits. If deposits are found then they file for the permit. No deposits not permit requests.

The environmental weenies try to conflate the two to make it look like companies are either a) knowingly keeping the price high or b) oil is nearly all gone...neither is true but both serve their agenda.

Bigger question is how many permit requests there are that are still not approved because they are being held up by the bureacracy.
