*US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro voiced concern in remarks on Wednesday

*Said China has 340 active warships, compared to about 280 for the US Navy

*Claimed US naval shipyards can't match the output of Chinese ones

The US Secretary of the Navy has raised the alarm that China's naval fleet surpasses America's in number of ships, and is growing faster than the US has current capacity to match.

'It is no secret that the People's Republic of China seeks to upend our dominance on the oceans across the globe,' said Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro in remarks at the National Press Club in Washington DC on Wednesday.

Del Toro said that China's navy has recently added over one hundred combatants to its fleet, calling it 'a naval buildup that is a key component of its increasingly aggressive military posture globally.'

Appreciate the warning. Are we doing anything about it?

Their ships are as good as the rest of the stuff made in China. The real problem is the wokeness insanity that has taken over the US Navy.

We’re learning about white rage, tearing down monuments to dead heros and renaming military instillations.

What, you expect more? We’re not a serious nation anymore. It will take a bloody nose and even then it may not be enough.

What can we do about it? We are out of money. And if we had the money who would do the work? Where are the tens of thousands of welders, pipefiiters, riggers, and electricians to do the job? Is there even anybody trainable and motivated to seek such jobs? Could any candidate pass the drug test?

The United States is more focused on a having a woke military than having a military that can successfully defend the country.

if their ship construction is anything like their city construction... their navy will be sunk in three years

If I am not mistaken, China’s navy may have more ships but only a handful of them can travel more than a 1,000 miles. They are mostly coastal patrol type vessels. China does not have a “blue water” navy yet.

I’m not an expert, but every branch of the the US military complains about funding and is constantly asking for more. However, if the military is struggling for funding, perhaps we should stop giving billions upon billions of $ to the rest is the world and spend it here.

Just a thought.

Maybe Ukraine can build a navy with all our money. That’s where China got their crappy aircraft carrier.

But, our navy will simply fly the BLM flag and the Chinese will shrink away in shame.

Guaranteed.

The United States was caught flat-footed in its ground war against Russia. My guess is that the naval war versus China will go the same way. We think the world is 20 years ago.

If it comes to a war over Taiwan, a coastal force capable of dominating it’s local region is probably good enough. As it stands, the USN would struggle to enter the SCS in the face of Chinese opposition, a situation that had not existed since at least the 1950s when the USN achieved complete full spectrum dominance over any other navy in the world.

Or like the junk ATV’s they ship over here for sale. They probably won’t even have a motor that works.
china should just save their money. Sit back and wait till the dems finish destroying up from the inside.

Well. We could stop building overly technical pieces of junk and subsequently decommission them after spending billions and getting nothing.

Our govt is so stupid we deserve everything we get. Nothing will change until cell networks and McDonald’s go down

China's navy is superficially impressive, but qualitatively lacking. It's primary a defensive fleet that doesn't have true blue water capabilities, and is mostly oriented in defending the China Sea.

People in the know say that Chinese naval technology is roughly comparable to 1980s US Navy, but they are trying to close the gap. I've been told that even Japan in its weakened state can sink their navy.

However with America's military in decline I expect that in the next 10 to 15 years American security guarantees aren't going to be enough and Japan will defy the United States and re-arm.

China's city building is amazing, while the best of US cities was built in the last century.

What’s the plan to replace aircraft carriers lost in combat?

We made 53 carriers in 1943. It now takes nine years to make one.
