If I am not mistaken, China’s navy may have more ships but only a handful of them can travel more than a 1,000 miles. They are mostly coastal patrol type vessels. China does not have a “blue water” navy yet.
I’m not an expert, but every branch of the the US military complains about funding and is constantly asking for more. However, if the military is struggling for funding, perhaps we should stop giving billions upon billions of $ to the rest is the world and spend it here.
Just a thought.
If it comes to a war over Taiwan, a coastal force capable of dominating it’s local region is probably good enough. As it stands, the USN would struggle to enter the SCS in the face of Chinese opposition, a situation that had not existed since at least the 1950s when the USN achieved complete full spectrum dominance over any other navy in the world.
It would also save money if we shut down overseas military bases and rebuilt them along our borders.
As a moving foxhole attracts the eye, and ships don’t move quickly, given the advance in sattelite and missile technology, and the advance in drone technology, why not scores of cheap single-purpose unmanned subs having sea to sea missile capability? Make navies obsolete. Set up a naval operation like Ellis in Nevada. I realize we would have an advantage only if their purpose was not crewed by woke squids. However, once upon a time that advantage existed at Suitland in Maryland. I wonder if it still exists?
