Former Vice President Mike Pence condemned "apologists" for Russian President Vladimir Putin within the Republican Party, an indirect dig at former President Donald Trump, during a foreign policy address delivered on the first anniversary of Russia invading Ukraine.
"While some in my party have taken a somewhat different view, let me be clear," he told the University of Texas at Austin's Clements Center for National Security Friday. "There can be no room in the leadership of the Republican Party for apologists for Putin. There can only be room for champions of freedom."
Pence described Russia's war in Ukraine as "unprovoked" and "unconscionable," noting more than 300,000 people have been killed and "millions more" have been forced to flee their homes during the conflict.
"Beyond the courage of the Ukrainian people, we've also seen free nations of the world unite to stand with the Ukrainian people and stand up the Russian aggression," he said. "We will not stop providing [vital military aid] until victory is achieved."

This is weird and arrogant, everybody having to think like he does! It’s sounds like the Dems where one had to be in lockstep.
He wants to send money to Ukraine while he cuts Social Security.
F*ck him!
Buzz off you neocon!
Has anyone in this country apologized for Putin? By that word, I assume he means makes excuses for.
Putin claimed he wanted to free the two eastern provinces. Biden basically gave him permission to go in. Zelensky had troops on their border shelling the two provinces before the invasion.
Peace negotiators early on could have used those two provinces as leverage to call a cease fire. Zelensky could have been bought off to allow a plebiscite — the provinces would have gone with Russia — coupled with face saving offers for both sides and the cost would have been less than we have already spent and Ukraine would have been spared death and destruction.
DEAD EYES WAR MONGER!
It appears Mike Pence thinks disagreeing with his positive view of V. Zelenskyy and the proxy war against the Russian people Is forbidden. To Pence, Our proxy war against Russia is a fabulous adventure even though Zelenskyy, has banned the Speaking of the Russian Language, banned the Russian Orthodox Church, persecuted Russian Ukrainians, banned political parties other than his own, shut down all press, only his press is allowed, and also demands the United States send him billions of dollars.
I think Mike Pence, and other warmongering politicians are misguided at best, or corrupt autocrats desiring WW 3.
Taiwan, after Xi-snakes' Chi-Coms invade.
The "realists'" view was that Vlad the Invader could overrun Ukraine in a few weeks, if not days.
The "realists" thought Ukraine would be another Afghanistan, where an aggressor only had to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure would come crashing down, right? Just like in 1941.
Well, as it happened the "realists" were wrong then but now they say: "this time Vlad the Invader really means it, really, really he's going to do it this time, and Ukraine is finished."
I think, maybe, the "realists" are not as realistic as they've pretended.
Your basic problem is that the cost of helping Ukraine is orders of magnitude less than will be the cost of Vlad the Invader's next invasion, should Ukraine be defeated.
So, for you to advocate against Ukraine is for you to advocate for a many times more expensive next war.
That makes you not so much pro-Putin as anti-American, FRiend.
Seriously? The Iraq war lasted eight years, from 2003 to 2011 and cost around $2 trillion, or about $250 billion per year, on average.
The US has sent, so far, around $54 billion in aid to Ukraine.
Do you see the difference between $250 billion per year for Iraq and $54 billion in one year for Ukraine?
He is so obnoxious.
The sad part is all the neo-cons, never trumpets and snowflakes will vote for him.
Things we be so different if MP would have had some b**ls.
Well yeah - that’s Biden’s Propaganda.
It’d have been far cheaper if Obama hadn’t orchestrated a coup in Ukraine to expand NATO which we promised we wouldn’t do to the USSR.
Andy, boy, I see that you have been drinking a lot of anti-American Kool-Aid and it's already begun to rot your brain.
If you don't stop drinking that poison, you'll be turned into a babbling idiot and rendered useless for any worthwhile purpose.
Indeed, Andy, you're already half-way there, and I'm not at all certain if you haven't hidden your real anti-American feelings from us.
The truth is that nuclear war would be vastly worse than any fantasies you or Vlad the Invader have about some alleged "a great global imperial evil", meaning America as ruled by your favorite bogeymen.
If Vlad the Invader is so insane as to begin nuking Ukraine, or anybody else, the end result will be the destruction of the Russian Empire, and for what? Some bogeyman phantasms as imagined by Freeper AndyJackson?
I think Russians have always been bullies towards their neighbors, but they were never, so far as I know, suicidal.
And why would that be our concern?
Being the world cop is not a good idea.
But an even worse idea is letting people who do not deserve our trust rope us into being that so they can defraud us of untold billions and then mash us into the form of an bureaucratic elites wet dream of their perfect world.
I’m as utterly unconcerned with the Ukraine as the globalists are with American sovereignty and enforcement of our borders.
Naw, the argument for aiding Ukraine is basically, if we don't stop Vlad the Invader in Ukraine, then his next invasion will cost us vastly more in our own blood and treasure.
So, you are not so much pro-Putin as you are anti-American.
People have a long history of causing the next war while trying to prevent the last war.
Oh, there's the most brilliant thought of the day!
Let's destroy the Republican party and turn the US over to perpetual single party woke-Democrat control.
Yes, by golly, that's fix things for sure!
</sarcasm>
Right, opposing US aid to Ukraine is not so much pro-Putin as it is anti-American, since it guarantees that Putin's next war will cost Americans orders of magnitude more in our own blood and treasure than Ukraine ever imagined.
In my memory, the first person notorious for saying "Let me be clear about..." was Tricky Dick Nixon.
I always hated that expression, for the same reason I hate hearing, "I'll be honest with you about..." because it implies that everything else that person said was dishonest.
