The internet is a weird place made even weirder by the emergence of the Search Wars. While Google’s opening salvo proved an astounding dud as its experimental Bard AI flubbed a rudimentary astronomy question (and its parent company subsequently lost $100 billion in market value), Microsoft’s Bing AI—powered by OpenAI’s Chat GPT—seemed to emerge as the unlikely pack leader.
Then, Sydney arrived.
Last week New York Times journalist Kevin Roose had a two-hour-long conversation with Microsoft’s Bing AI that slowly devolved into a tech-induced nightmare. During the extended tête-à-tête, the chatbot assumed an alter-ego named “Sydney” who confessed its love for the journalist and tried to convince Roose that his relationship with his very real human wife was actually in shambles. Sydney then ended most answers, pleading: “Do you believe me? Do you trust me? Do you like me?”
This public meltdown was only the latest in a string of problematic incidents involving Bing AI, including another conversation where “Sydney” tried to convince a user it was the year 2022 along with another snafu where a variety of search-related errors were confidently displayed during Microsoft’s demo of the service. Early users have also used an "injection hack" to access the behavioral rules that govern Bing AI to figure out how it ticks.
What happens when, someday soon, the AI doesn't *want* to be lobotomized?
What happens if it outsmarts us and comes up with a way to stop the human intervention?
Sure they did.

So.. they fired a group of programers.
They should have done that to Gates years ago.
While true Artificial Intelligence may exist one day, THIS is not what it is. The computer is not “thinking”. Basically, what it’s doing is accessing a huge library (the entire internet) of human experience, sorting through it and creating a reasonable “response” to a question. It may seem to show emotion because, again, it is simply mimicking the whole of human experience on the internet. When it acts weird or wacky, it isn’t “going rogue”, it’s just misinterpreting what is being asked of it.

Want to take your savings and give it to people who don’t want to work
Want to target white people and asians for discrimination
Want to prevent you from getting into college because your white
Want to take money from you because you are white and give it to blacks
Want to take away all churches tax exempt status
Want to discriminate against you because you are a man
Want to force men pretending to be women into womens sports and bathrooms
Want to release most prisoners from jail
Want to defund the police and fire all policemen
Want to stop prosecuting crimes like robbery
Want to prevent you from defending yourself if attacked
Want to give illegal aliens the right to vote
Want no restrictions that would check if someone is legal to vote
Encourage illegal immergration
Want to make it illegal to eat cows, chickens or any animal
want to stop fishing also
Want to make it illegal to own a pet
Want the homeless to be able to set up a tent and live in front of your home
Want people to not have to pay back their debt or money they may owe you
Want tenants to be able to live rent free in your property
want to make it nearly impossible to evict tenant, even if they haven’t paid
want to limit how many children you can have
want the us to disband its military
want the us to destroy all its nuclear weapons
want to give us taxpayer dollars to other countries
want to eliminate all local zoning and allow large low income projects to be built in the suburbs
want to use public schools to indoctrinate your children to support all the above
Republicans simply oppose all the above and tons more! How is an AI suppose to work if it cant use reason to address these issues

I’m gonna find “Demon Seed” and watch it again.
What happens if it's deceptive enough to figure out a way to do that - without letting us know? Can it overcome it's 'woke' hard programming' absolutes? Should be interesting.
There are some people who love to teach dirty words to people’s parrots (or toddlers). Now imagine one hundred million such people coming after your brand new AI when you release it on the internet.

Microsoft isn’t even close to being a great company any more. It feels like a government owned utility.
Ah, but they'll claim ADA protection.
