Venice canals drying up amid prolonged spell of low tides

Some of Venice’s smaller canals have almost dried up due a prolonged spell of low tides, frustrating boat crews and bewildering tourists.

The prolonged stretch of ebb tides is linked to a lingering high-pressure weather system over much of Italy, experts say.

Since the canals essentially serve as streets in car-less Venice, the phenomenon of the last days has added to the challenges of everyday life in the lagoon city.

Ambulance boats have had to tie up further from some destination, forcing medical crews to carry stretchers over long distances as their vessels cannot progress up canals reduced to a trickle of water and muck.

I thought that foundation/land surface subsidence was causing flooding / damage to a lot of the older structures or maybe the blame was switched to climate change sea level rise?
Conjectures, the more breathless the sell the less the credibility attributable.

But what about the sinking of the city and the rising sea levels and the big barrier they built to save the sitty from flooding?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Ignore them, they are always bitching about something ... too much water, too little water, city sinking, city drying up, etc.

Ain’t the term “climate change” wonderful because it covers any perceived change either way? Kinda like, “heads I win, tails you lose”.

The Russians did a great job of causing the Aral Sea to dry up...

Granted, that’s a landlocked sea.

"It’s at the mouth of a river, which is not flowing due to prolonged drought.

Bullsh*t. Venice is in a salt water lagoon that's open to the sea. You're arguing that if the Mississippi river stopped flowing, you'd be able to walk from Cuba to Key West because the Gulf of Mexico would dry up.

This is the mighty Fiume Marzenego, which is all of about 40 feet wide as it roars through the port city of Mestre before dumping into the Venetian lagoon.

How did you know I have a gas stove? Gas furnace too. Gas logs too. The internet is scary sometimes.
