In WW2 the Japanese wanted to ramp up the Kamikaze corp. They needed recruits intelligent enough to learn to fly but not critical to the war effort like engineers and doctors.

The drafted entire Law Schools into the Kamikaze ranks.

"Honorable kamikaze pilots, fighting war for emperor of Japan, you are embarking on a MOOOOST dangerous mission. Taking kamikaze planes HIGH up in the sky, you will search out Yankee aircraft carrier. Then, you will take honorable kamikaze plane DOWWN fast, crashing it on the deck, killing yourself and all aboard.

Now, before we have ceremonial sake toast, are there any questions?

Yes, you in the back, Sakimora!"

"Honorable general sir!"

"Yes?"

"Are you outta you f***ing mind!"

My respect for the Japanese just went up a notch.

In the meantime,

Have you seen the recruiters in Ukraine and how they snag people at funerals (since young men might be there after a brother and father were already killed in this war), guys going out to the supermarket dressed as a women to avoid getting caught, or folks beating up the recruiter (that’s why they go in groups now), some resisting as they are forced into the van to be shipped off?

What does it mean when you only read and hear one side?

Want those video’s? Probably not. Doesn’t fit your narrative.

Let’s assume our most favorable for Ukraine and still realistic statistic of ~100,000 Ukrainian and ~188,000 Russian servicemen casualties is correct (no civilians where it’s almost exclusively Ukrainian and >30,000). If that were the case, but Ukraine only had 41,000,000 people before the war (even some men fled but we won’t consider that either), and Russia has 143,000,000 (and a better demographic, i.e. more young people, which we will not consider for ease of discussion and since it won’t matter anyhow), what does that mean? It means Russia would have to lose about 3.48 people for every Ukrainian... and all you have is 1.88 assuming a realistic rough ballpark and most favorable statistic floating out there.

However bad it is for Russia, it’s worse for Ukraine.

But sure, we’re winning on all fronts: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a1/Nazi_Propaganda_-_V-Deutschland_Siegt_An_Allen_Fronten.jpg

I think I heard that one in history as well. In fact, that was still being screamed on the German radio as US forces crossed the Rhein and after Berlin fell. The worse the disaster, the bigger the lies need to be. Isn’t it time for some ghost pilot to shoot down 5 Russian Mig’s today?

US and EU politicians are willing to kill every Ukrainian and Russian to keep the money flowing in to their pockets.

In Iraq Blackwater operatives escorted convoys, provided security at numerous sites, interrogated prisoners and obtained intelligence, had documented pitched battles with insurgents. In short they did everything that would have to be done by American troops, took casualties and freed American troops for other duties. They also had their own armored vehicles and helicopters. Such is war everywhere.

My narrative? I wish I had one concerning this war, I am torn and completely ambivalent but not uninterested.

My reply was tongue-in-cheek.

Well, duh. Ukraine is being bombed and its cities attacked.

Meanwhile, “Super power” Russia has been humiliated before the world. It’s flagship cruiser Moskva sunk by a nation with no navy. It’s best airborne troops slaughtered in the fields of Kyiv by Ukrainian “farmers and miners”. Now after a year of bumbling butchery and war Putin’s prisoner slaves are still fighting over border region villages. How pathetic is that?

One thing that should be clear by now to all but the most biased observer is that Russian chauvinists have not and will not succeed in their stated goal of erasing Ukraine from the map.

Ukraine is still Ukraine and Russia’s reputation is gone. Forever.

You’ve got it exactly backwards. US and EU politicians can’t wait to drop the Ukrainian hot potato and get back to doing business as almost usual with Putin. Biden wants to partner with Putin on a new Iran deal, the EU wants cheap Russia gas to finance their nutty energy policies, etc. Unfortunately for them those pesky Ukrainians do not want to surrender and be slaves in the Russian World.

How many of the Blackwater guys were convicted murderers bailed out of prison to fight in Iraq? One of the Wagner guys murdered his mother with a hammer. Lovely bunch I’m sure.

Comparing BlackWater with Wagner is perhaps the dumbest comparison I’ve seen from the Putin bois in a while.

BlackWater did not empty US prisons for their staff.

With Russia’s population base, this student recruitment drive is not necessary for the Ukraine War. Russia is sensing a looming conflict with all of NATO. Our State Dept. bleating about not wanting to control Russia amounts to a direct admission via propaganda that this is the case.

yes, and that's what's happening ... offensive combatants typically suffer 3-4 x as many casualties as the defenders

you also ignore that Ukrainians are highly-motivated to fight - their country could be wiped out - while Russians aren't

that's why Ukraine keeps winning

The point dear FRiends is that mercenaries of all sorts have been employed in warfare throughout recorded history. BTW those ex Chilean “intelligence officers” hired by Blackwater were no doubt sterling characters.
