Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman on Wednesday checked himself into a Washington hospital "to receive treatment for clinical depression," his chief of staff said on Thursday.
"While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks," Adam Jentleson said in a statement.
Jentleson said that Fetterman was evaluated on Monday by Congress' attending physician, Dr. Brian P. Monahan, who "recommended inpatient care" at Walter Reed hospital. "John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis."
"After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed told us that John is getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself," Jentleson said.
Fetterman, a Democrat, won his seat in the November midterms. He suffered a stroke during the campaign, which his doctors said was the result of irregular heart rhythm that led to a clot.
He recovered before the election and returned to the trail, albeit with limited appearances. After the stroke, he worked with a speech therapist and also had auditory processing issues that required the use of closed-captioning devices. "He has no work restrictions and can work full duty in public office," his doctor said, via his campaign, in October.

One can only wish...
Yep, pathetic abuse of a person. The doctors all said his condition wasn't going to improve significantly.
Being married to a commie skank will do that to you.
So even he thinks he’s unfit to serve? Finally, something I agree with him on.
It has to be hard on him to know that he didn’t really win fair a square.
Good job PA.
How fitting. His election caused a lot of depression.
The existence of mail in voting and the fact that Oz was an unacceptable candidate for conservatives are non mutually exclusive problems. There are 9.5 million adults in PA. 5.2 million votes were cast. Fetterman won by like 240K votes. The Democrats have a huge machine that moved heaven and earth to get that 240K advantage. They likely squeezed out every vote they could. And among the 4.3 million that did not vote were more that 240,000 disgusted conservatives.
I went through severe depression and was suicidal in my early 20’s....I wish this on no one. However, if he does cognitive therapy and finds Christ, he will have an amazing recovery.
Praying for him to come to Christ...this would be the time for it to happen.
The State Vegetable of Pennsylvania?
John Fetterman.
And if he refuses he will shoot himself. In the back of the head. Three times.
.....”People get the government they deserve....”
“The premise behind this statement is that the people allow things to take place, so whether they live in a democracy, oligarchy or authoritarian state, they have brought it upon themselves. The people have the ability to overthrow governments so if they do nothing, they get what they deserve in a sense”
I truly feel sorry for the great people of The Keystone State...they deserve much better than this...yes, maybe Dr.Oz was a flawed candidate in some ways, but he would have made a much better U.S. Senator than this pathetic creature...
The obverse side of that coin is, no Democrat Socialist is qualified to be a US Senator. The job is just too much for them.
I yearn for the days when there actually were real Democrats in the Senate. But the last of them rode out of town a couple of election cycles ago.
I genuinely feel sorry for this guy.. he’s being used.
Didn’t see that coming. Nice going PA.
What’s he got to be depressed about? He has a well paying job that requires nothing from him and the political machine that allows him to keep it?
Probably still more competatant than some of the other geriatric Congressman and Old Joe.
“Alan” Eagleton?
Shame on every Dem who pushed him to stay in the race.
