Drew Angerer/Getty Images CNN — Donald Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows has been subpoenaed by the special counsel investigating the former president and his role in the January 6, 2021, insurrection, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
Special counsel Jack Smith’s office is seeking documents and testimony related to January 6, and Meadows received the subpoena sometime in January, the source said. An attorney for Meadows declined to comment.
The Justice Department did not respond to CNN’s request for comment on the subpoena. The move to subpoena one of Trump’s most senior aides – in addition to the recent subpoena of former Vice President Mike Pence, as CNN reported last week – marks the latest significant step in the special counsel’s investigation into Trump’s role in seeking to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election.
Smith also is simultaneously investigating Trump’s handling of classified documents after leaving office. While the subpoena is related to January 6, Meadows also may be of interest in the documents investigation. He was one of Trump’s designees to the National Archives and played a role in discussions around returning government records in his possession.
The special counsel’s subpoena could set up a clash with the Justice Department and Meadows over executive privilege. The former White House chief of staff, citing executive privilege, previously fought a subpoena from a special grand jury in Georgia that was investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. A judge later ordered Meadows to testify, finding him “material and necessary to the investigation.”

Apparently, the Brandon has a lot of Feddies drawing paycheck but have nothing to do so they’ve been assigned to the JSixer fiasco.
A supposed straight news story applies the word “insurrection” the j6 trespass/protest? Not an actual news source.
wasnt the Jan 6 committee disbanded?
Your criticism probably applies to about 80% of all ‘news media.
That’s what I thought, too...because it was a House Committee...hmmm
Isn’t the special counsel about the classified documents Trump had at Mar-A-Lago? Since when is it about J6?
Or rather I should say the *alleged* classified documents.
It was originaly setup to investigate BOTH.
I seems part of Smith’s investigation is ‘election interference...’ not just the document fiasco.
CNN being biased? What’s the world coming to?
thanks for the link- it was disbanded- hopefully mark can just ignore the subpoena
note that we haven’t heard word yet abotu the LGBTQ group that took over another capitol building just recently- violently apparently- no charges of insurrection or hundreds of the protestors tracked down and thrown into solitary -
Code pink also took over the capitol building- no charges of insurrection by the feckless msm-
This is a special counsel, aka, special prosecutor, which doesn’t stop if a committee is disbanded or if the House changes hands.
There should be a select committee on J6, in which the prior J6 select committee’s shenanigans should be looked into, along with what really happened on J6 and prior. Shubpoena Nanshy as to why she didn’t want the ten thoushand nashinel guardsh Trump offered her, why the riot gear was not available, why the Capitol Police let so many people into the building, and get her recordsh ash shpeaker for January shiksh.
ah- ok- dang- they just aren’t gonna let up on republicans
I agree... the whole can of worms needs investigating. Also in need of investigation is the FBI’s role in all of this and an evaluation whether the American Praetorian guard actually needs that huge building they’re about to build for it. I would prefer the FBI be disbanded.
When is this going to end? Where are the investigations the GOP promised?
But as demonstrated by the use of in your face censorship, serial impeachments, and a highly organized and coordinated voting fraud scheme in 2020, the establishment will do absolutely everything and anything to prevent Trump from getting reelected.
