Declining student enrollment may force some Washington schools to close, lay off staff

After a significant drop in student enrollment, officials from Washington's largest school district are floating the idea of shuttering some schools and cutting staff, the Seattle Times reported.

School officials from Seattle Public Schools discussed the potential need to "consolidate into a system of well-resourced schools" because of significant budget shortfalls related to decreased student enrollment.

The district's senior staff discussed how consolidating the district's 106 schools may provide students with improved access to specialized programs, social workers, specialists, counselors, and nurses.

The district's interim deputy superintendent, Fred Podesta, argued that "consolidating into larger schools that have the resources they need is a good strategy whether you have money problems or not."

Officials were forced to consider the idea since SPS's student enrollment has continued to decline since the 2019-2020 school year, which was attributed to a declining birthrate and a loss of confidence in the public school system.

The drop-off in student enrollment has also led to less state funding for SPS since the district receives money based on the number of students enrolled.

Destroying government run schools should be a priority.

There's the problem right there. Instead of concentrating on getting their kids to read, perform math, and understand science at their grade level, they're focused on money wasting programs to teach them how to be victims.

Unlimited Abortion has a lot of of unintended impacts on those supporting the Unlimited Abortion, like less students for liberal classes in a just a few years later.

Less students equals less teachers/principals needed.

It’s a start. Don’t let your children anywhere near groomer teachers.

“Aborting and gaying two-three generations of Leftists tend to do that.”

Amazing how that works. If we pushed mass abortions and gaying, we would be labeled as fascists or worse.

As taxpayers, we might end up better off financially. Don’t tell the elite liberals about these realities.

Sell the schools and turn them into shopping malls.

= = =

It’s Seattle.

Turn into dwellings for the ‘Unhoused Neighbors’.

It would be nice if they left the alphabet or addition tables hanging on the wall.

So he new tenants might learn something.

Meanwhile, 300 miles east in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, we are building and renovating schools like crazy.

Coincidence? Yeah, sure.

Article: "… provide students with improved access to specialized programs, social workers, specialists, counselors, and nurses."

It's pretty obvious they are NOT thinking of the kids. This is a jobs program for the usual set of leftist grifters.

They’re close the non-hellhole ones, and leave the DEFINITE hellhole ones open. Because doing otherwise would be RACIST!

Schools jobs in many places are just welfare jobs, bodies in slots.

Many government jobs are just welfare jobs, bodies in slots.

Out of 53600 kids only 3600 left the schools. Wow

Think about it. 50000 are still being poisoned and their parent don’t care.

I understand that it now is costing Washington's taxpayers $16 thousand a year to have a student attend school. And, they can't tell time with an analog clock. They can't read, write, add or subtract. Lord help them if they have to count to inventory anything.

It is a shame.

People moving away, kids being home-schooled or private schooled. But we should also ask if the original numbers were legitimate. Maybe some of them were like those fictitious names on payrolls of construction companies in mobbed-up cities — just a way to funnel money to the mob. Public schools get paid by the enrolled students, with a big chunk of money coming from the Feds.
