Rick Scott announces bill to ‘protect and preserve’ entitlements by yanking funds for 87k IRS agents

Florida Sen. Rick Scott this week announced a proposed bill that would protect federal old-age entitlements in part by rolling back funding for tens of thousands of new tax enforcement agents.

Scott on his Senate website said his proposed legislation would "safeguard the benefits" of Medicare and Social Security, funding for which he claimed President Joe Biden has a history of cutting.

The bill in part would "rescind funding for Joe Biden’s new 87,000 IRS agent army and redirect those funds to Medicare and Social Security to shore up these programs and address threats of insolvency," Scott said.

Another provision in the law would mandate that "if any bill makes changes to Medicare that result in a ‘savings’ every dollar of those savings must remain in Medicare."

Finally, the bill would stipulate that if "any legislation will cause a cut or reduction in Medicare or Social Security, this rule will force two thirds of Congress to vote to approve it, making it much more difficult for Congress to make cuts or reduce benefits."

Scott's office said the proposal would "protect seniors from Washington’s dysfunction and the pain caused by President Joe Biden’s raging inflation crisis."

C'mon Rick, you're smarter than this. Kabuki theatre at its finest. There's no way it gets past Biden's veto pen.

I'd rather they strip out about half of the General/Flag Officer ranks in the military. They're clogging up the system, colonels and lieutenant colonels are capable of filling those jobs.

As a Captain with about a year time in grade, I was the Operations Officer at a major directorate on Fort Bliss, a slot meant for an LTC. I was put there by the CO of the directorate, because of the job I did for him as a staff officer in Germany. The Army is (was?) an upwardly mobile meritocracy, not the woked out shell that it is today.

Get rid of that 1099 if you sell more than $600 worth of goods...stuff you might sell at a garage sale.

So I paid $800 for something and sold it for $650...and I will get a 1099 AND I have to file despite being on SS.

Add in funds by not building a giant FBI head quarters building.

Sadly this won’t even make it past the Senate. Nothing good will. Then there is Biden.

This Scott guy is an absolute cretin. The funding for the IRS is a deficit reducing piece of legislation. You remove that funding the government has LESS money coming in, not more.

I guess that’s why he defrauded medicare for so long, not great with math.

But the House should run with it. Let McCarthy stand in the rotunda and proclaim that the House has voted to defund the 87K new IRS agents and is instead going to use those funds to shore up SS and MC. It will be interesting to see how the democrats attack that.

We desperately need a proposal that would “protect ALL AMERICANS from Washington’s dysfunction and the pain caused by it”

You mean less money from waitresses and the like?

How thoughtful of you.

The funding for the IRS is a deficit reducing piece of legislation.

How is it "deficit reducing?"

In case you hadn't noticed, the amount of income tax the US feral government collects has nothing to do with how much they spend.

The purpose of tax policy is to punish disfavored groups without access to tax attorneys/shelters.

The people targeted by these 85,000 agents earn under $40,000 per year.

It's got nothing to do with tax revenue. Its purpose is to drive those people out of the job market and into the social credit system that will enslave us all.

Save it for a non-negotiable item in the debt ceiling bill.

Good idea, could be effected with little or no action from the Bureaucracy. I just wish I had $100K in a retirement account...lol.

Don't worry about me, I'm doing fine.

Not until next year. The IRS suspended that idea for a year.

Another thought comes to mind: send a 1099-NEC to the shoplifters stealing from out stores. Let's loose the IRS on them.

Sure, it would take some extra work to get all the information, but it would be worth it to find those serial thieves.

It will bear a close resemblance to the Memphis Scorpion Squad.
