The family of Tyre Nichols has filed an urgent appeal to the United Nations, requesting action “regarding the torture and extrajudicial killing” of Nichols.
“Today, we filed an Urgent Appeal before the United Nations asking it to condemn the tragic killing of Tyre Nichols, to demand transparency from the police department, and to demand that Officer Preston Hemphill and all officers that participated in the incident are criminally charged,” attorneys for the family said in a statement.
“The video evidence shows that all who were involved in Tyre’s death committed reprehensible acts that require international condemnation,” they continued.
According to the United Nations, “Urgent appeals” are used to seek intervention to cease the violation of loss of life, life-threatening situations or “imminent or on-going damage of a grave nature.”
The goal is to ensure State authorities intervene or prevent a human rights violation as quickly as possible.

Sure, random inner city blacks filed a UN petition.
Total horseshit.
I don’t know about going to the UN, but we do know cops tend to circle the wagons and protect their own. I wouldn’t trust them not to drag their feet on a fake investigation and quietly release them in a year or so.
Scuse me, family of Tyre Nichols. We kinda have our own justice system right here, as you probably know very well.
The family of Tyre Nichols can take a long walk off a short pier.
I was sympathetic to the family before this! Not so much now!
Reparation$ by proxy.................................
I guess you can categorize this as “global” justice. That’s a special flavor of justice like “social” justice. Does this happen because people have legitimately lost faith in the American justice system? I certainly have.
Would this be the same UN whose peacekeepers in Africa rape little children?
WTF is an “urgent appeal with the United Nations?”
I’m sorry your son died, but this is the stupidest sh** I’ve ever heard.
Given that there is video of the whole thing, it’ll be kind of hard to do that.
Given that the corrupt police chief fired the guys, it’ll be kind of hard to do that.
Given that the officers have already been indicted, it’ll be kind of hard to do that.
Given that they’ve been firing anyone and everyone that was there, regardless of what agency they worked for or role in anything, it’ll be kind of hard to do that.
But, cop hates gotta hate, I guess.
If these two goons try to get the UN involved in America’s business they both need to be thrown in jail. The turd world UN has no business in America. It’s time to run their freeloading dinosaur asses off. WWII is over. Time for these jugheads to get real jobs somewhere else.
From the UN Charter, Article II, section 2, clause 7,
Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter; but this principle shall not prejudice the application of enforcement measures under Chapter Vll.
Besides, blue helmets would make for very nice targets.
Pay day ... it’s more than a candy bar.
Great point.
Rather strange that the cops that killed him quit being the story.
I actually agree with them for filing a grievance with the United Nations.
I would sooner trust the UN to safeguard me and mine much more than I would the city of Memphis and the Memphis police department.
Um, they have been criminally charged.
Zero chance they thought of this, zero.
They live in Memphis for a reason.
