SpaceX has taken steps to prevent 🇺🇦#Ukraine's military from using the company's #Starlink satellite internet service for controlling drones in the region during the country's #war with 🇷🇺#Russia - Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president said
Ukraine has made effective use of unmanned aircraft for spotting enemy, targeting fires and dropping bombs. "There are things that we can do to limit their ability to do that," she said, referring to Starlink's use with drones "There are things that we can do, and have done."
This is f**** ridiculous. Seems like @elonmusk keeps looking for new ways assisting 🇷🇺#Russia in aggression. Depriving the Internet for missiles and drones at the front deprives the Internet itself of meaning. Absolutely disgusting!

This is self-preservation.
This keeps Russia from using that as an excuse to shoot them down or destroy them with lasers...............
This information is not from Musk or StarLink. If it is true then I would guess that Musk in concerned that Russia planning to damage the satellites and render them useless.
Fine, deny Ukraine use completely then.
I have no problem with this. Once an asset is used for military purposes it becomes a legit military target.
This doesn’t make any sense to me. Russia may have the ability to shoot down satellites but they could not shoot down 4,000 of them. Also the area covered by each satellite isn’t very big so any attempt at jamming the signals would only cover that small area.
A private entity that isn’t a defense contractor should shield itself from being used in warfare.
If war crimes are committed by Ukraine using Starlink, the potential exists that Starlink could be held liable or at least charged with aiding or conspiracy to commit war crimes.
It’s best for Starlink to refrain from allowing itself to be used in active engagements and be used for communication purposes only.

Not just that, once you open that door it then belongs to the military from now on. Once you let them in you will never get them out.

Absolutely. A company MUST protect itself from liability. Be a component to an active conflict makes one liable to counter actions from the other side.

THIS^^^^ Period.
Musk has stated he wants the war to end.
Maybe he doesn’t want to be a part of its continuation?…
Its good to be skeptical of everything.
Abductive reasoning is the only way to wade through the propaganda, and the trolls - here on FR, and of course, in wider media.
The twitter post links to a Reuters article. The source is none other than Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and chief operating officer.
What doesn’t the CIA control?
Here’s a couple of comments from the thread.

Time to nationalize Space X.

Biden could invoke the “Defense Production Act”.
Correct.
A large dump truck load of sand going in the opposite direction would ruin a lot of Starlink satellites.
Last I heard was that Elon was supplying Ukraine with internet for free. Now they hate him because he doesn’t want the military to use it for drones. He has been waking slowly for the last couple of years. Maybe he has shifted position on that war.
The “Spacing Guild” has spoken no hostilities while using their property.
As it should be.
Very little, it appears.
